These ones are slightly less than predictable, but they're not exactly lost gems. Generally pretty crap. Kinda ok...but the very meaning of average.

I'm in the service industry and sometimes I just know that there is no way to make some people happy. I could mix drinks in golden goblets, use ambrosias from the Gods and have fairies fly the drinks to their lips and they still wouldn't be happy with it. Sometimes when I come on here to read setlist and reviews I feel the same way.

Is the NZ setlist the best set BJ could ever play??? No. But is that set played well, with Jon full of energy and performing well one really good show???? Yes.
It looks like a pretty fair representation of all but three records. 7800, which will never, ever be played, Bounce, which for the most part does get left by the wayside, and TD which is probably the last record they toured in NZ. It was a little HAND heavy, with five entries from that record, but they didn't tour it here so it makes sense to give the NZ fans a good dose of it this time around. LH also weighed in with five songs which is of course because it's the album they are touring behind.

It's really easy to sit in your livingroom, look at a set on paper and say "oh man what a boring show" but the truth is if the band was hot and tight and Jon was in the zone, we all would have left this show hot sweaty and tired !!!!

As for the covers, while I would be just as happy with BJ classics in the encore, those songs are fun, upbeat and unless the Kiwis have chnged drastically since I was there fifteen years ago, my guess is they were dancing and singing their way out of the building on those two. I'll wait and see what some of them have to say before I pass judgement on a show with this setlist.

All we fans are asking for is the odd special song thrown into the set list so that every show has something special. They have enough songs to do this.

eg.

Tokyo Road

Let It Rock

Homebound Train

Living In Sin

Wild Is The Wind

Love For Sale

I Believe

Bed Of Roses - Original

Dry County

Always - Original

Hey God

Something For The Pain

This Ain't A Love Song

(It's Hard) Letting You Go

Damned

Lie To Me

Something To Beleive In

Next 100 Years

One Wild Night

Undivided

Misunderstood

Bounce

The Distance

Novocaine

These are just some of the great back catalogue of BJ songs, all of which have been played many times in the past. They only have to put a couple of these into each show and vary it a bit. Instead they stick to the safe formula of hits etc.

Come to think of it I would love those 24 songs in a set - Dream, dream, dream......

Aloha !

Also, they haven't been touring Crush, One Wild Night and Bounce there either, so if you're talking about balance there's no way they should play 4 songs from Have A Nice Day. Story Of My Life should've been replaced by Everyday, and Complicated should've been replaced by One Wild Night. Then you're talking about balance. Playing just as many songs from Have A Nice Day as playing songs from Slippery When Wet doesn't make any sense. Slippery had 3 big hits, Have A Nice Day had 1. And not playing any songs from These Days because they toured that album the last time they were there doesn't make any sense.

So I take it your costumers are satisfied if the service you offer is average but delivered by you with a fantastic smile and you all covered in sweat? You're not making any sense at all.

A band should deliver the best they can, not the best they want to.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Hi guys,

I was at the concert last night and it was fantastic! About 30,000 people were in attendance and I don't think anyone left disappointed. I myself still have a ringing ear, hoarse throat (from too much singing), saw legs (from too much dancing), and a saw arm (from too much air punching)! To me, that is the aftermath of a great concert.

On paper the setlist looked quite average - as many people here seem to agree to - but the band were in fine form. Jon did a great job in getting crowd involvement especially with the handful of Lost Highway songs played. KTF, IBTFY, HAND, and ISWID were absolutely fantastic. The covers were actually very cool - it surpised all (except Dry County members) and was loved especially Shout in Bad Medicine.

It was really cool to hear Complicated, SOML, and CCATBQFM, as we never got these tours. Though the songs earlier on the set we not recognised by many byt for me, as a diehard fan, it was fantastic to hear them live for the first time. Also, we got ITA - which again, I have never heard live before and have always want to hear live!

Ending on the covers was great. Everyone was dancing and having a great time (even the casual fan was able to get involved). No one wanted the band to go. Everyone could not believe how fast the concert went.

In sum, it was brilliant. It was actually better than when I saw them on the TD tour (which up to last night, had been my fav concert of all time). Everyone is talking about the concert at the moment over here - Bon Jovi made a great impression on NZ last night!

Its going on like this almost allways... The band plays, if the set is "average" we have to read tons of bashing and "how it used to be" or "how the concert sucked" and then someone WHO ACTUALLY WAS THERE comes and says it was great... Then, on some occasions, that someone could even be attacked by the ones claiming the gig sucked...

OMFG, give me a break.
