thinking back it was almost two different versions of the same band
for the regular set we were comfortably chauffeured along in comfortable Mercedes along a smooth country road with nice scenery and then the encore hit and we were holding on for dear life as the Ferrari was running off the rails down a tricky mountain switchback with faulty brakes
I didn't have a " wow this sucks, I wasted my time and money driving 4 hours each way to see this" feeling during the show, but 3 songs into the encore I was completely in love.
The guys are all old farts now but they have experience to draw on to get through a show and make it enjoyable for 99% of the paying customers. Us 1% hardass critics might see the dull spots in the armor, but for me it wasn't enough to make me wish I hadn't been there.
Take a listen to the whole show and I think you might get the same vibe, it's like they were saving it for the encore.
