It's not overdose; I only go to one show per tour and it's still really annoying. Only asking for one or two rarities per show--whatever they are combined with the 20 song vanilla setlist would be spectacular. The audience and Jon's vocals made the show. Richie was awesome on the guitar, but the sound was so muffled imo that everything but the vocals were all jumbled together. A agree though--great energy and a great show for casual fans and new ones, but that isn't worth $135/ticket and I am certainly glad I didn't fork over for the front rows. Our sign requests would have been pointless and that is what pisses me off.

Is Central Park being broadcast?

I don't know about the rest of you, but after reading that, I'm counting one more show for this tour. I definitely feel like I was THERE!

Thanks so much for the review. I was in stitches. Massive admiration for your packing list, btw. (Speaking of packing, that's what I'm supposed to be doing right now. The plane leaves in 11 1/2 hours. And I have a crappy list.) Interesting observation regarding the overdose. Hmmmm . . . how many shows am I doing over the next week?

Thanks again -- I'm glad you enjoyed the show!

Dave,
How I've missed your reviews!! I just love your detail and do remember all the notes you take. Thanks for taking the time to get it posted.

I agree with your thoughts on the US never getting a lot of rarities and that's why I go overseas for shows and will do more next tour. I hope the band will throw us a bone in Boston and NYC but we'll see.

Excellent review Dave. I truly feel like I was there. I most-certainly enjoyed your packing list, lol. Very detailed, and it gives the reader something more to look forward to. Being a professional writer myself, I look for all kinds of "little" things that make an article or review better. I must say that I can add Detroit's show to my list of shows attended.. Okay, maybe not, but pretty close.

As for the setlist, it might have looked boring, but your portrayal of it certainly sounded like the show was amazing. I definitely would have had a good time, although I enjoy a few rarities. Perhaps you forgot the last part of the tour during the HAND tour Dave? I am not nitpicking, but during Giant's Stadium, those setlists were equal, if not better than European shows. We got all kinds of rarities, so I expect some during this last burst of shows.

Bringing up the DVD speculation, I must say that I agree with you somewhat. Most people that are purchasing a DVD for a concert will want mostly hits, it's just the way it is. So why there will probably be some rarities during the MSG shows, it will be hit-heavy as well. This is where my argument comes into play...

The Central Park show is a huge media event, so why wouldn't Jon tell his band to play a few different tracks that aren't normally played? I mean, there are going to be more die-hard fans there, and if Crush gets involved in this conversation, I can back up what I am saying, so that's no problem; but people who come out at 2 in the morning to stand in line (believe me, I was f*cking there) are die-hard fans in my book, and everyone I talked to knew what they were talking about regarding Bon Jovi. "I have been going to shows for over 20 years." "I know all about Bon Jovi, I have seen a lot of shows and can say that **** is better than ****, but **** was better than ****." The list goes on because I was talking to a lot of people who knew, or at least thought they knew what they were talking about.

I want your input on the Central Park show because you definitely know what you are talking about, and it seems that a lot of people enjoy reading your review(s). *I am assuming you have written them before?* The fact of the matter is, while there will be all types of people there, we will get 75 % hits, 25 % special tunes. That's how I am going to put it, but it could really go either way.

Many people are stating that MSG will be the shows where the special songs that all of us Jovi fans would love to hear live will be played, but I have a feeling that CP might be in for something large. Who knows though, right? Whatever the outcome is, I can honestly say that I will be witnessing a historic event, in the greatest f*cking city in the g*ddamn world!

Again Dave, awesome review, and I look forward to reading more of them. You definitely seem like you can write, so maybe we can chat sometime.

Regards,

Jason F.

LOL.

Can I ask you something JJx23? Are you just going to Central Park or are you attending the MSG shows as well?

That's one of the best reviews I've read Dave...and definitely one of the best overall reads I've had for a spell.

Even in Europe you'd struggle to get that kind of balance! I was at the show in Manchester last month and they did 26 songs, and of those I'd say 6 or 7 were special ones (ie not played at every show) which equates to about 23-27% - and the Central Park show will probably have about 2% die-hard fans and the rest pretty casual, so if they made a quarter of the setlist 'special' songs they'd have people stood bored and not enjoying it. As much as I hope that I'm wrong I'd bet it'll be a setlist full of hits and the rarest thing you'd get is Saturday Night or Always.
