I sat there and watched his interaction with the fans and realized just how damn talented this man is. Winning over an audience is never easy no matter how good your ass looks in leather pants or jeans. He has an undeniable gift, the same one that Bono, Jagger and Tyler have when making eye contact with audience members and hypnotizing them. When Jon began to engage the crowd during these moments tonight we all began to feel connected to the music.

I also give Jon props as I think he’s insane for actually going out into the crowd to perform a song. When it was over all I could think about is this is why I love this band. I want my artists to challenge me and surprise me when I see them live.

Here is where I looked at Jon and saw him alive and not running through the motions. There was a sparkle in his eye as he sang the chorus and saw the fans singing this new number back to him. After the song finished, there was a rousing and spirited reprise. When he looked out into the audience and saw us singing it back to him, that million dollar smile shined brighter than any of the lights or effects on stage. This was a real moment where I felt his soul rattle from the concert stage.

I did think it was contradictory that he was talking about how amazing Jon was earlier, but later basically said he was running through the motions before. To his credit, he was writing until 5:00 AM though.

Thank you for posting this, Becky. It may be long-winded, but as I read it, I couldn't help but agree with what he had written. Is there a way to get his setlist to the band?!!!

When the band came back from their break, “Bells of Freedom” was performed to dead silence from the crowd. It may be my least favorite track on “Have A Nice Day” and even though it was performed well, it was a buzz kill. Can you imagine getting it on, hot and heavy, with a new boyfriend/girlfriend and all of a sudden calling out your ex’s name? That was how the United Center felt during the performance of this song, as its placement should have come early in the set, not in the encore.
This is so obvious... It's one thing that Jon likes this song, but it's slot in the setlist is just stupid. How could he think this would work?

Thanks for posting this Becky.

I just came from Ticketmaster after first trying to get tickets online for one of the Southern CA shows. The online presale yielded crap compared to what I easily got last time around on the Bounce tour. This morning during the regular sale online was no better. The Ticketmaster outlet was also giving the same sections 30 minutes after they had gone on sale. So.......I will not be going to see Bon Jovi on this tour. I just couldn't justify putting up with subpar seats. The set lists so far, the video from Des Moines and this review all pretty much help me feel better about not going. I'd like to go..but I don't think I'm going to wind up missing out on anything real earth shattering in Bon Jovi tour history. If they actually had a production going on or a brand new set list that abandons the old model...I'd have taken a lesser seat. But it's business as usual....so nope.

Have fun at your shows everyone. I guess I'm stuck watching shows from the 80s and 90s.....the ones where the "soul" the reviewer was referring to was fully accounted for.

Sorry man - That sucks. But ilke you said, you're not missing much (or so it seems) on this tour. There's always summer time.

very interesting read. i found myself agreeing with a lot of what was written.for example even though ktf is not one of my favorites it is amazing when perfromed live and it should be a regular in the setlist. also it is true there are lots of times you feel the "Soul" is missing- hoping that Jon will find it again soon.

does anyone know when this guy says jon was in the crowd like what exactly or where exactly he was? i saw some pictures but am still confused...

(cue me on the big screen) JBJ: "How good have you been? Oh My God!" (laughs, more teasing) JBJ: "You want it huh, you want it huh? Blood on Blood just for you, the good girl in the front row? The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3
