Default Disappointing ticket sales in Europe

Aloha !

Do any other concerts suffer with poor ticket sales?

In Holland, due to the "brilliant" idea of being put up with a soccer match before the show, many people return their tickets. Ticketmaster already said people would have to wait before they'd get there money back because so many decided not to go anyway. Rumours are going that only 15.000 of the 50.000 have already been sold.

Ticket sales in Belgium are also disappointing. That venue is also far from sold out and even Gold Circle tickets are still available. Many people think it's way too expensive, and I'm not paying 100E either for a ticket in Belgium. It's just too much.

Are the tides turning? Are people finally fed up with the high ticket prices? Anywhere else in Europe or even America where it's this bad?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Nothing sluggish in the US. The shows have and are selling well. I'm waiting for more Billboard Boxscore results to see capacity versus planned capacity as far as ticket sales.

While I always want the band to do well, the ticket prices are getting a little out of hand, especially in Europe. Maybe with the poor ticket sales maybe they will "get it". I'm sure the fact that this is their 5th tour in 8 years doesn't help either. Many people (the casuals) have already seen them a few times an don't wanna pay that kind of money.

As far as I know Seb, tickets in the U.S. have been selling well.

How are there ticket prices in Europe, compared to other acts over there, and what do hey convert to, if anyone would be so kind?
Over here in he US, the tickets are expensive, but actually cheaper than other artists who shoot for the same Demo.

Over here, just to give you an example of how much more expensive it has become, a Bon Jovi show costs just as much as a show from Genesis.

2001: 40E
2003: 50E
2006: 65E
2008: 75E

Within 7 years it's gotten over 50% more expensive.

Sebastiaan

I think what Brian wanted to know (as well as me) is what that translates into in terms of American money

Ah compared to an American show it's cheap I think. With the current dollar rate that's $111,- for a GC ticket in Germany and $150,- for a GC ticket in the UK.

Well I paid $130 for a lower level ticket (with all the other expenses ticketmaster tacks on it was close to $150). So there's not a huge difference there.

Yea, at today's rate 75 Euro is $117 US. I'd say the average top US price is $120. Jovi is very much in line with other artists as far as ticket prices. For example, Jovi's top ticket price at Mohegan was $195, Van Halen is $199.50. Tom Petty at MSG is $129.50. Rush is $150 at a an amphitheater in Long Island (Jones Beach). So, in the US, Jovi is not outrageous when compared to similar band artists.

That's true even though Mohegan was more expensive than the arenas they are playing in the U.S.
