Default Does the crowd reaction in NY area make a diference to JBJ performance?

The last few gigs JBJ seems to be having a blast and pulling out all the stops... why ?

In these tour threads comments have been made /videos shown where the crowd is treating the show like a sporting event, sitting down, going to get drink, not cheering...

Does this make JBJ more relaxed and able to perform better ?

or

Is it because the crowd are not easily pleased , therefore JBJ has to pull out all the stops ?

Does the crowd reaction in NY area make a difrerence to JBJ performance?

Ive always felt that JBJ seems happier when in NY area and this is why I thought it was a better performance and he is not on autopilot.

Europe used to get better set lists but auto robot Jon... this is one reason why I always want to go to a stateside show.. especially NY.

It's New York, that's the reason he pulls out all the stops

I don't the think the crowd reactions make a difference, because as we saw from the MSG DVD, they are just as docile as any other city.

He wants to show off in The Big Apple, in front off all the big shots, near home.

This I cannot confirm. And you must be the first European on this board to prefer US shows, lol.
I have seen him changing the setlist many times and putting in good rare songs (Mystery Train, Diamond Ring...), and really getting into the show, even the rare stuff like "Hey God". On the oh-so-bad "Bounce" tour the band/Jon gave an incredible performance. Jon lying on the floor in full sweat, shaking his head and grinning like a baby in full-exhaustement after 2 hours 50, and getting up to asks for his guitar and play one more song like "These Days" and thereby make it a full 3 hour show is not what I call auto-robot. I'm not saying there are no autopilot Jons in Europe, but I haven't seen him yet, not really. But then again, I wasn't at Hull.

I think people see what they wanna see....
I don't think he looks happier in NYC but I know nothing obviously....
I just know they did a dvd and a movie there ... what you see on a prepared programmed DVD and movie is not the truth ... bring on a bootleg video from all the shows they have done so far then we will see if effectively JBJ is indeed happier in NYC ..

Unless you are from the NY/NJ area, it's very hard to explain the energy. There is no other place like it. There is that extra punch behind every cheer. Then, throw in the hometown band...... Forgetaboutit......

It's a combination of Jon feeding off the energy of the crowd along with him wanting to give back to his hometown fans.

I've seen Bon Jovi perform outside the area and it's just not the same.

Default Better in New York?

Having grown up in New York City I know what you mean about the audiences. They are tough. But if it is true that Jon seems happier when he performs at home- maybe it's because he gets to go home to SOHO after the performance and sleep in his own bed, and not in a hotel.
However, that theory- like all others- has flaws since he can sleep in his own bed when they play Philly, D.C. and of course New Jersey.

I've always thought the crowd reaction and the bands performance is better in NYC area. I do think he feeds off a good crowd, but he loves it because it's home too.

I live in NY and have gone to some shows in and out of the city but mostly Jersey. In Philly last week the audience that I saw did not sit down, did not flee when WWWB was played. The energy was so thick you could feel it through the rafters. In Conn last year the audience was very different. Last week they got such a great setlist and not a Jon on auto pilot. Jon was not on auto at last years show. The question is why did the audience get what they got and the crowd at MSG got more of the same. I think it was because the crowd at the Saturday show in his opinion and mine was different than the Friday aud the week before. After the Friday night show I said it was f**k the casuals night and I think it was. Jon feeds of the audience and unfortunately sometimes takes his cues from them. The last MSG show with the technical issues was weird because Jon rolled with the punches which was different.

There could be so many reasons why he and the show seem different when he is close to home. I think many performers act different at home.

I'm sure it's a mix of the close to home thing, the cache of NY, and the fact that NY/NJ (and Philly for that matter) draws more die hards than anywhere else in the US.

I agree. Philly is a great place too. You obviously get the NJ crowd in there as well but I've always enjoyed myself at the Philly shows. They have great acoustics in that arena.

I went to DC once to see a show and it was the same as your Connecticut experience.
