Default Europe dates, and the nature of the tour

I know this will probably end up being a pointless thread, but I just need to blow off some steam. I'm sure I'm not alone in being 'up to high dough' in waiting for UK / Ireland / European concert dates to be scheduled. (I guess that people in the UK will understand the expression, but as for anywhere else? If not, it basically means being in a state of advanced agitation). It's good to see the Japan and NZ dates confirmed, with the Australian announcement surely imminent too - all the rumours of a 2008 tour seem to be falling into place, with one exception. From memory, an 08 tour was intended to promote a new greatest hits, wasn't it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my perception is that the band have been surprised by just how successful the 'Lost Highway' album has been. So much so, in fact, that next year's tour seems to be a LH tour, even for stadium shows such as the NZ event. On the assumption that Aussie and eventual European shows will be outdoor events too, the idea of a greatest hits tour has presumably been put on the backburner for the time being.

I personally like the idea of a LH-centric show, especially as I'm a fan of the album, and since I was expecting a greatest hits tour. What does anyone else think? I just wish they'd announce some European dates and put them on sale while I still have funds on my credit card (my available balance is ever decreasing as Christmas approaches, and my wife buys more and more presents!). Hell, I don't care what kind of show it is, as long as I'm there.

I'm happy for them holding off announcing it until I come back from my mega-holiday at the end of November, though I have a contingency plan should they go on sale b4 then...thank god for mobiles phones....lol

you raise an interesting point though - I know Jovi have said they're not planning to tour as extensively as they have previously, however, if they do release a greatest hits there's nothing to stop this turning into a greatest hits tour.

They could do what they did on Crush/One Wild Night - enjoy it so much they then release a greatest hits and go back out on the road again in a back to back tour. Kinda' what happened with Crossroads and These Days as well.

If, say, the LH tour was to become a greatest hits tour, or was closely followed by one, would the band play the same venues / cities again, or would they make a point of going to different territories? My specific interest is obviously for an Irish show, but I at least have the luxury of knowing that a Dublin concert is pretty much a certainty. I really feel for the fans 'down under', and am therefore pleased that Bon Jovi have remembered to go and see them this time!

Anyway, I thought I'd be proactive and email Croke Park to see if they'd like to comment on the possibility of a 2008 concert. If anything interesting comes back, I'll post it here. (I'm working on the assumption that Croke Park is the logical venue for a BJ concert in Dublin, especially as the HAND show last year was so good.)

I'd hope for a GH tour cause then just maybe they would come back to Scandinavia again otherwise if it's a LH tour we'd have to go to Germany or UK for some shows and my funds are also rapidly sinking due to a certain Bruce Springsteen touring right now!

didnt LH sell kind of good in sweden. I think it debutet high on the chart to fall down within 3weeks and than it did a big comeback and than it stayed in the top 10 for some weeks. for some strange reason it seemed to sell better than bounce and have a nice day.

Absolutely, it must have done a lot better.

I think the European tour dates are meant to be announced early November! I cannot wait! Not long now!

Lansdowne Road is currently being redeveloped, and will be out of commission as a venue for the next few years or so (anyone who went to the old stadium will understand exactly why redevelopment is required). The RDS is certainly a possibility, although Bon Jovi can definitely attract a much larger crowd than the venue's maximum capacity (around 35,000 or so) - of course there'd be nothing stopping them playing more than one show, but I don't see this happening. However, although they didn't quite sell out Croke Park in 2006, I still think it's the more likely option.
