Default European dates ideas?

Hey guys,

Just thinking about all the buzz about this going to be a big tour and figured, as probably many of you, what does this exactly mean in terms of European shows.

Sure everybody thinks they're going to go back to South America and some middle east countries they haven't visited properly since 95.

But focusing in Europe, last year there were a lot of rumors of them playing in eastern countries - which eventually proved to be wrong. But couldn't there be some seeds and first contacts of these markets with the band's management so they can repeat their 96 experience, when they performed their truly last European tour - not only the 2 majors markets of Germany and the its neighbors and UK/Ireland. Do you think they can truly set out to do one of those tours and include France, Italy and the Eastern market? And even proper shows in Portugal, Spain and Scandinavia.

Other thing I thought a major tour could mean in terms of European shows, would be for them to do 2 separate tours in this continent. First an arena tour in the winter, and then, in the spring/summer, their usual stadium tour. Sure they already do it in the US, but could they do this again in Europe, since they have done it for instance in 1993? It makes sence since bands like Metallica or ACDC do it, and sell out both tours. This way they could easily spread their tour to 18 months and separate a more new album focused show (arena tour) and then a greatest hits collection (stadiums). Do you think it would be a good idea and realistic?

It could be done and it should be done, but time will tell us.

Wish they'd add a UK date for Sheffield then I could see 2 shows in the UK.

I hope this time they will come in Eastern Europe... It was my first thought when I heard about the new album... but right now all I can do is sit and wait to see tour dates

I said it in another thread already, but I think what they mean by big tour is they'll tour on The Circle, release a greatest hits II, and then tour on that. So back to back like Crossroads/These Days and Crush/One Wild Night.

My point is there is a huge difference between those 2 tours: The Crossroad/These Days tour was a global worrlwide tour, since they inluded the middle east, australia/nz, south africa, south amerrica and eastern europe.

As to Crush/One Wild Night they basically performed in japan, North America, UK/Dublin, central Europe (Germany and its neighbor countries) - in 2001 australia was a 1 hour show in a festival, coulnd' barely be cosidered as part of the tour.

If they mean they're gonna tour 2 years in a row like you say, they should get back to the Crossroad/These Days kind of tour, since it was thae last time they have truly done a world wide tour.

Aloha !

The reason why it now seems more likely that they'll be touring different regions is that whatever the current is in the country they're doing a show at, it most likely will be more worth than the dollar. If they tour many countries in Europe they bring back more Euro's for which they get a lot more dollars as opposed to the dollars they're getting for a sold out American show.

For example; 10.000 tickets in Europe are 15.000 tickets in America.

So the money now is made outside of America which is why the rumours of them doing a part of Eastern Europe and maybe even a few more cities in Asia show up. Doing Australia had nothing to do with them being loyal to Australia but had a lot more to do with the fact that it was now financially a lot more attractive. The same goes for the Scandinavian shows last tour.

I am a bit surprised that no rumours of the shows in Germany have showed up though. Normally we know half of the tour unofficially before it's anounced.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

At the end of the day though, I bet the Australian fans, or the fans in any other part of the world they decide to tour that they haven't toured for ages, don't actually care if they're just touring there for the money, as long as they're touring there!

Sometimes I feel a teeny bit guilty that I live on a tiny little island that somehow gets about a quarter of the shows on the entire European tour

I know. It's not different for the UK either though. They do places like Bristol to make touring in the UK a lot more financially attractive. If they had the choice they'd only do Glasgow, Manchester and London.
