No, I remember that that rumour surfaced at the time all of Backstage started defending Jon for putting on such a show and came up with various excuses, including that one. It was Jon who was pissed off at something though, and it had nothing to do with Richie's father, that was simply something that Backstage made up.

Hull was a show they tried to get out of but were forced to do because they signed a contract for it. At the time the European Tour was supposed to start (back in the Summer of 2004), they signed a contract of playing Hull. When the dates for the final HAND tour were planned, they "forgot" to plan Hull, which is why that date went on sale much later on, and it was after Milton Keynes.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Yeah I had tickets to that one. It would have been my first Bon Jovi-show. **** Wolkswagen.

During the slippery and New Jersey Tours there are lots (more than 30) dates that were announced but then chnged before tickets went on sale.
This happened because Bon Jovi were in such demand as a live act that shows would sell out (literally all seats, not like a modern sell out) in minutes and then the venue and promoter would do whatever it took to get another show. The band would end up bumping the next show back in order to do 2 back to back shows at a venue, which was cheaper than moving the whole production to the next city and then coming back, so in addition to getting additional fees from the venue/promoter they saved money on transport, rentals, etc. Unfortunately the band didn't see as much of this bonus as the management (hi, my name is Doc.), but they were blinded by the perks the management would work into the deal. ie - you guys have to play an extra gig but afterwards we will get the venue to fly you home for a day of rest before the next show on a private jet.

As far as actual cancelled or rescheduled gigs after tickets were sold I can only confirm 4 dates.

9/19/1987 Memorial Stadium, University of Nebraska Lincoln, Nebraska USA Farm AID 3 - Bon Jovi Cancelled after announced and sold out

6/6/1989 Seashore Performing Arts Center Old Orchard Beach, ME USA Rained Out, Rescheduled

11/14/1995 Burswood Dome Pert, WA Australia Dogstar, Jimmy Barnes CANCELLED injuty to Tico's arm

7/11/2001 Mark of the Quad Moline, IL USA CANCELED - no reason given by box office or band, this was a late addition to the tour schedule after Chicago sold out. Scandalous rumours say that Jon (management) added this show, but that Heather was furious as she had plans for Richie's birthday. Richie bowed to Heather, but Jon began to sabotage the Richie/Heather relationship. Probably pure dreck.

Oooh you must have been mad at the time. I was annoyed but being cheated out of your first to be show. Ouch.

There was also actually someone in Gothenburg at the University who managed to sell tickets to a fake Bon Jovi show in 87 I think it was. Can't remember if the Police every caught them but they managed to sell quite a few tickets before it was discovered anyways.
