Extended Break Coming?

As I've said before although Im a really big fan, but I'm also a farily new fan. From all the interviews I've ever seen of the band they seem really passionate about their music but seem to really hate touring (especially Tico). I can understand why, It's got to be really tough being away from family and kids for long periods of time and very physically demanding doing what they do on stage each night. From what I've observed, the band has been quite busy since their last tour with TLFR being released, promoting TLFR, Philly Soul, The Box Set, Promoting the Box Set, and then recording HAND and this tour. So what I'm wondering is with the new Ritchie album coming out soon and him doing promo and possibly touring for that, as well as Jon and David's younger kids, does anyone else get the feeling that we may see an extended break on tap for the band following this tour? I mean most bands take about 2 years between touring and recording a new album but I get the sense from some stuff that I've read that it may be much longer than that. Also although I'm sad to say it, the guys are getting "not old, just older" ... how much longer do you think they'll keep this gig up? I mean the stones are ancient compared to BJ and I would love it if they could keep going as long as the stones or some of those other "aging rockers" have, but do you think they'll do that or give it up. Please note that I'm not by any means suggesting that the band is too old to be doing this, not as good as they used to be etc. I think HAND is one of their best albums ever and on this tour they still have more energy than bands half thier age. BON JOVI IS STILL A KICK ASS ROCK BAND. I have just found this site to be full of people with really good insight into the band so I'm wondering what you think is on tap for the band in the coming years.

I think they've been around too long to split up - and Jon has said this himself. We might be in for a break given how busy they've been these last few years and with Richie announcing a solo project and all but I reckon they'll be back. It must have become a massive part of their lives over the last +20 years and I can't see them giving up what they must evidently love and which brings in new generations of fans with every album.

Here's hopin' they keep on rockin for a long time yet!

My feeling on the subject is pragmatic. I think that this album and tour has been hugely successful - much more so than was expected. I doubt that this is a good time to back off. Jon is an astute businessman and I"m sure he knows that as well as I do. I agree that they might love to take a break for all the reasons that you mentioned. But when you are riding the crest of a wave - you don't bail out early.

I think, you're right, but I think, that they know, they will have to have a little break (3 years), than they can make new things.

It depends, I thought a break was due after Bounce, and in a sense it was a break, while there were stuff released (TLFR, box set) and some promo done for each of those releases there wasn't any touring involved or an albums worth of new material, and they sometime off from the band to allow the band to take a breather.

I'm guessing if there is a break, it will most likely be one like that, maybe a bit longer.
I'll say 3 years tops maybe??

remember also, there really wasn't a plan for a 5 year break between These Days and Crush, it was originally supposed to be a 2-3 year break.

yes i think you are right and im really happy for the band about that.

I don't think they'll ever split up. They've all said that they are beyond that point, even if they do outside projects. Richie's been talking about that new solo CD for almost 6 years now. I agree with Kathleen that they'll ride this high while they can. Even if Richie does release a solo CD, I don't think he'll do much touring. And I hope there's never another 5 year gap between band albums. I know factors beyond their control contributed to that (Bruce Fairbain's death, the record company being bought out)... but that was just TOOOOO long to wait!

I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been with that post. I don't think they'll break up either. I just know that most bands commonly take a "break" period between touring and new albums and was thinking this one might be longer. However thinking about the success of HAND you might be right in thinking they might just ride this wave for a while.

I'm too damn old for another 5 year break. I might just have heart failure waiting LOL.

How successful is HAND and this new tour? I haven't figured it out yet.. I guess they sell a lot of tickets and stuff.. But they are not on the "crush-level", are they?

Anyway, breaks are good for creativity.
