How it works:

BJ decide they want to do a tour.

Their promoter (BJ is a band - they hire ppl for the sound & stage setup) send info to Europe that they want to do a tour....

The local promoters then act on feedback as to whether they can get BJ to play there. If so, they put down a LARGE sum to guarentee BJ's appearance. They then decide on the ticket arrangements & prices. In UK's case - they decided to use a gold ticket system. The FC have done really well to negotiate a deal that allows FC members privalegs - that justify's the £30 we pay for it. BJ have nothig to do with it (they r a band - not a promoter) - FC have no say (they r a separate company that has done well to negotiate a deal). If u r a member of the FC - u can feel glad that this deal was brokered & that u can get the privalges your £30 deserves. If not - u r subject to the ticketing rules of the promoter. & gold tickets gains u access closer to the stage than not.

I don't understand what your problem is.

Mike

Summed up nicely, Mike. People automatically assume that Bon Jovi and the fan club run the tour when in reality it is the promoters. Bon Jovi only agrees to perform on the specified date; the rest of the details are up to the promoters. The fan club has to negotiate the deals for the fan club members just like you said. The don't call the shots. The promoter could have told the fan club to "forget it" and then Mike McRock would be complaining that there isn't anything arranged for the fan club. Because the promoter sold all the GS tickets for the pit, unless fan club members have one they won't get in. That's the fault of the promoter, not the fan club.
Look. You talk about having rights for fan club members, and it's right, they should as they pay their money on the large part for the tour benefits... That's the reason I'd have joined, that's the reason I presume most people join. I was under the impression it was about £40, but even at 30 it's expensive....

The point is, it's all the extra's you have to pay. If you want to be at the front of a Bon Jovi concert you hae to pay EXTRA for gold standing, then EXTRA to get in the ground early. It's just rediculous.

The point is, the band are happy to let this happen, because they must know how they have been sold. They must know that what they are doing is fourcing their loyal fans to pay almost double to see them, which is pathetic.

Maybe their isn't a hell of a lot they could do now, but I doubt Jon's going to say during the concert "I'm sorry this whole tour was ****ed up, we'll make sure it won't happen again".

What the fan club have done is devised something where their not really giving you too much benefit, whilst depriving normal people substancially. It should be fair footing. Who gets down their early gets to the front, reguardless... It's just saying that who can flash the most money get's the best spot, which I hate.... Also, if the bands Bon Jovi had been seeing when they were young were charging £60 a concert, do you think thy'd have had the chance to see enough shows that they'd have been really into music? THey're being untrue to their roots. Charging going rates is one thing, but creating additional costs here and there isn't.... They could tell the fan club they're not getting tour rights, they could easily do that. They could tell promoters that Bon Jovi concerts have a fan club pit at the front, again, very easily. At the end of the day they're the band.
