I'm sorry. The fact that you don't see that as being morally wrong is bizarre to me. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
So people should only be aloud to sell on their houses for the same price they bought them? After all, think of the good it would do a struggling family to get a nice affordable roof over their heads.

People are allowed to sell scarce goods for a profit. It's simply the way the world works.

That doesn't make it right. Why do you think so many states have banned scalping tickets?

Here's the difference.

Selling Pirate DVDs is counterfeitting. Adds nothing new to the market except a lower quality product that people aren't prepared to pay as much for.

Selling-on concert tickets does add something (admittedly not much). It gives people who have missed out the original on-sale window a second chance. Customers recognise that and pay a premium for the service.

I have to agree. I know lots of people who supplement their income by selling on Ebay and I don't have a problem with this.

I do have every sympathy for those that get scammed on Ebay. But as for buying tickets way over face value as soon as the website says they are sold out..well...common sense should kick in here. As a regular concert-goer I know that tickets are always likely to go back on sale. Usually the promoters release more, or orders get cancelled because fans try and buy more than the maximum number allowed per person.

Sorry, but that's complete crap.

I wanted to get Celtics-Lakers Playoff tickets. They went on sale and were gone within seconds. Next thing you know, $75 tickets were up on ebay for $1,000. That's not right.

It's not missing out on the original on-sale. It's not being able to get tickets because people with connections buy all the tickets before some people even have a chance to get them.

FTR, that's all I've ever done when selling tickets.

That's fine. I don't have a problem with that. Things come up, things happen and you can't go to a show. It's happened to me before as well. So, sell them and get your money back.

But to buy tickets with the intention of selling them for an outrageous profit is wrong. It may not be illegal (it is in some states), but it's wrong.

Anyone got any figures for this? I'm pretty sure I've seen articles quoting major events having 15% of tickets go to touts.

Not enough to make a major difference to your chances on the first day of sales. In 20 years of shows I can't honestly say I've ever been shut out of anything because tickets went too fast.

Like I said, NBA Finals. Happened twice. Pissed me off beyond belief.

For concerts, generally I won't get shut out. Still pisses me off just as much when I get nosebleed seats and Joe Scalper is posting seats 5 rows from the stage for $1,000 a pop. Just as bad.
