Scalpers use programs that allow them to buy thousands of tickets at a time. Ticketmaster caught them and sued one of the software companies, but who knows how many more are out there. I also know a scalper who admited that he pays the venues to get tickets in advance.

Exactly. If it was a level-playing field and scalpers were picking up tickets to sell on, so be it. As you said, there's a fair chance that anyone who really wants to go can get tickets anyway BUT that's not good for the scalpers is it? They could be left with a bunch of tickets that they have to sell at a loss so they come up with underhand means of getting hold of not just a lot of tickets but, in most instances, the best tickets too.

With regards to the cover offered by Credit Card companies, I have a Paypal account funded by my bank account and my debit card and, as far as I am aware, they offer no such protection. This has all hit on top of my wedding at the weekend as well so I have not been able to pursue the issue as much as I would have liked until I get back from my honeymoon in a couple of weeks but the matter hasn't been laid to rest yet.

Let me clear this up a bit. This topic was supposedly on the free Central Park tickets being sold for massive amounts of money (at the start at least). Selling tickets (That were bought) on eBay or Craigslist for a profit is aloud I believe I eBay because they were paid for, but selling tickets that were free is MORALLY wrong because well... THE TICKETS WERE FREE! Now people will do it anyway, especially to an event such as Bon Jovi at Central Park.. Why? Because it is.. Bon Jovi!

As for the whole economy thing, it's true... Supply and Demand, it's important in today's world, but might not be working out too well as of now as our economy is greatly falling, but that's how people make money. Certain ways might be morally wrong, but it's going to happen unfortunately. I know how Dan feels, I know someone who tried to get great tickets to the NBA Finals and couldn't get them when they went on sale, so he had to pay $1,000.00 for them. That is a very large event though, with two historic teams (Lakers and Celtics), so of course the demand will be very high.

I wanted to clear up the fact that there is a MAJOR difference between selling tickets that were originally purchased for their sale price, and the ones that pick up massive amounts of free tickets and sell them to make 1000% profit. Not right, but they do it anyway.

Also, in NJ, and I am not sure if this aloud elsewhere, which is why I am only stating the place where I know it is not aloud... One cannot sell a ticket for a certain percentage above their book value. THAT is ILLEGAL.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Jason F.

I agree that this sucks, but it was bound to happen, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY GAVE EVERY SINGLE PERSON 2 TICKETS!

Debit cards won't, credit cards always will. If you use ebay/paypal with a credit card, you are in effect buying the ticket from the credit card company (as you have to pay them back later. It is their obligation to supply you with the goods.

Next time....

He didn't HAVE to buy anything at all.

Couldn't agree more. Even if there were no touts you would probably only have 10-20% more chance of getting tickets for an event like this. 75% (made that figure up) of the people trying would still be shut out.

He didn't have to, but he did want to (read rest of post). You might not be a basketball fan, but an event with the Lakers and the Celtics, for die-hard fans, like the guy I knew, it isn't something he wants, it is something he absolutely needs! Lol.. The fact of the matter is, there are people out there who are only after one thing... That's the money.

Jason F.

I saw this on tv this morning as well. I'm glad it's making the news, but how do they stop it? So many fans can't get tickets, cause these scalpers snatched them up. It's stupid people who buy them and keep scalpers in business. I love Bon Jovi, but I would never support a scalper.

Just saw a nice segment of this on Fox News. It sounds like the band is really pissed off and the mayor is saying there is nothing they can do. If they catch them, they will pay a fine. But how do you catch them? Eileen

Seems to always be the case.

Everyone knows there's a problem but nobody is taking any steps to try and prevent it. It's always passing the buck or claiming there's nothing they can do about it. Pull your fingers' out of your collective arses and come up with a strategy then! Ask members of the public for suggestions, do whatever it takes to motion a law that prohibits the resale of any ticket for illegitimate reasons..... anything is better than sitting on your backside saying there's no way to stop it. That lazy, negative attitude just p**ses people off!
