However, one thing not mentioned in the article that IMO led to this is "Front Row Syndrome." My philosophy on concerts has always been an "In The Building" one, and it's served me well. I average about 15 major gigs a year, and still keep myself on a concert budget. However there's a vast majority of people who either want to be "close" or not bother going. They'll pay insane prices, as long as they can get that, which leads to deranged prices for front row seats, and a serious depletion in GA style gigs.

yeah brian i agre and i always take my mom to one jovi show or two

beginning at end - we opened the rock and closed msg - and she now likes to sit in the back so she can see the whole production.
this article came from a posting on a black crowes fan board. now i just bought some VIP tix to see the crowes bc i never relaly have seen them super up close and as my 3rd fav band i would like to ONCE and they might be disbanded so this could be the last tour ever - we are 2nd row and are meeting the band for 200 bux (meeting the band isnt a normal part of the package its just a one off fund raiser for caunt basie theater) - its the first time theyve done it and yeah they are taking some heat for it from die hards but honestly for one of their chicago shows some scalper has 20 front row seats up on stubhub already so i id rather the band get the money but if scalpers still get them and they double the price it isnt really helping a ton.
also - i would do that ONCE for my sec fav - pearl jam - but i cant - you know why...
BECAUSE THEY GIVE THE ENTIRE FRONT AREA TO THE FAN CLUB IN ORDER OF SENIROITY AND THEY MAKE IT A LOTTERY FOR ROWS 1 AND ROW 10 SO YOU COULD HAVE THE CHANCE EVEN IF YOU ARE A LATECOMER TO SEE THEM UP CLOSE.
YOU GET THIS FOR $20 A YEAR - MY EXCLUSIVE YEARLY FAN CLUB ONLY SINGLE ARRIVED TODAY. AND I GET 4 CREATIVE ACTUAL MAGAZINE BOOKS A YEAR.
AND THE COST OF THAT SUPERCLOSE TICKET...THE EXACT SAME AS EVERY OTHER TICKET IN THE HOUSE. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME PRICE NO MATTER WHERE YOU SIT.
So i dont get the chance to buy my way up to the front. and you know what im ok with that bc man is that the way to run the fanclub and inspire you to want to be a part of something. for the first time in my life i am not part of the backstage with jbj...thankfully Kathleen got me tix for the superunbelieveable starland but again those could have been scalped and were ridiculously priced. but im a die hard so to me that was a life moment.
so there is some good and bad to the vip - it essence it can be done in a good way i think - but overall you gotta show me a better way than PJ who sold out MSG twice and the rock so it isnt like they are small time like the crowes - it can be done - it just has to be a priority.
