Yeah - I'm with you here. Frankly I have enjoyed following my favorite bands on the internet. I love getting bootlegs and YT videos almost instantly (instead of waiting YEARS sometimes).
Maybe I have a different perspective since I'm older but I like having information about what I'm going to see. I read up on the plays and operas that I attend before I go. If a band is playing something this tour that I'm not familiar with - I listen to the album (or particular song) before I go.
For example - Bruce playing The River last November. No surprises there - it's a 2 CD set - it's long. However I hadn't actually listened to the entire album all the way through in years - certain tracks sure - but not the whole thing. So before I went I listened to the tracks and the flow from one song to the other. Actually - it made the concert seem even that much better to me since the live performance was (if anything) better than the album. If not better - certainly more immediate. Personally I missed Danny's keyboards but having just heard the album tracks - I could identify what was missing.
Without the internet I wouldn't have even known they were playing an entire album at MSG - I would have bought my tickets and gone. I certainly would have been surprised but I don't think the overall experience would have been as good since I would not have steeped myself in those songs first.
So yes, we can bitch and moan (and I certainly do my share of that) but overall, I'll take the internet any day.
