Default How Cool Is This ~ Opening Act

Bon Jovi has come to STAR 102.5 and asked that we help fill the opening slot at their show at the Wells Fargo Arena, November 2! It could be YOUR band!* Here's how it works:

IMMEDIATELY drop off your demo CD with two ORIGINAL songs (no covers please) along with a bio of the band, references for the band (as in who have you played with), and a band member's contact information (name, phone, cell, email), to the STAR studios at 1416 Locust Street, Des Moines. All CDs must be submitted by October 26 at 5:00pm.

STAR 102.5 will select FIVE bands to perform on air during the week of October 24, during Karess Carter's midday show. She'll chat with your band and you'll perform one song acoustic.

On Friday, October 28, an independent panel of three judges will select one band to win the opening slot at Bon Jovi's performance at the Wells Fargo Arena.

But wait! That's not all you get!

The winning band will also be in the running to open for Bon Jovi one more time... at the band's homecoming show at Giants Stadium, in New Jersey, next summer.

Think your band has what it takes to get on the road to STARdom? Get us your demos RIGHT AWAY!

*Entries accepted from Iowa bands ONLY.

I think this is the dumbest idea ever. WTF, they are going to give a nobody band the opening slot, what a rip-off.

However, I've never seen the opening act of a Bon Jovi concert so I don't give a shit.

I don't see anything wrong with this at all. I actually think it's a pretty cool thing for the band to do. Considering how difficult it is to get noticed or to break into the business anymore, having a chance to open for a major band on tour is a big deal for young bands.

How pray tell is it a rip-off??? The tickets I bought say I paid to see BJ for that money not anyone else. I did very much enjoy seeing the Goos last tour but truthfully, I'm there to see BJ and if it happens that the front band has some good songs and i like the music then cool. If not I got what i paid for i got to see Bon Jovi.

They did that in Finland 1996. There was a contest and the winner got to open for Bon Jovi on the Olympic Stadium.

eh? when you buy the tickets you aren't aware who the opening act is so how can you say it's a rip-off? they don't guarantee bands who've sold 10million albums and been over the world. who's to say these bands won't be as good as anyone else they could get?

then stop your whining about it being a rip-off.
