Hyde Park 2011 Attendance ?

Wikipedia says there were 48,652 / 48,652 (100%) people on the Bon Jovi concert held on June 25, 2011. Other sources stated there were more than 50K, still others talked about 65K.
Which of these do you think is closest to the truth? Why are all these numbers nowhere near the 92,000 figure achieved on the Bounce Tour back in 2003? Just your personal opinion.

Well, the show was claimed to be sold out. I remember the week before the show, there were no tickets for Jovi on the official HRC website. I was in Hyde Park in 2010 and when Paul McCartney played it wasn't sold out, but they said there were 55,000 people, so I'm guessing that 60k could be right, especially as it was their only London show in 2011.

I also heard that the Bounce Tour, although it was mentioned by Jon as being 92 000, was actually closer to 120 000. Why it's so difficult to get the actual figure, I haven't a clue as it's a ticketed event and should be fairly easy to work out.

Let's face it Jon isn't the only one in the music industry with a penchant for inflating numbers... the official capacity for hyde park events is licensed at 79,999 - but that's single stage... if the set up was anything like when I went to HRC a few years ago then 48,000 sounds about right for the main stage. Honestly, at those numbers I don't see what huge difference it makes - it's a ridiculously big show. And with all the restrictions that come with playing hyde park getting far more attention than it's due anyway...

The HRC shows use a far smaller surface area of Hyde Park than previous shows held there. The Bounce show and Live 8 sectioned off a huge area that meant they could sell and sell. I think the Bounce show sold 92,000 before the day of the concert then there were people who walked up on the day and bought tickets, so it's quite likely that there were well over 100,000 at the show.

This is actually the very first time I have seen this number. No source has been provided. yet, the truth is somewhere out there.

I take everything on wikipedia with a large helping of salt. Something like that is practically unregulated information and without a reliable source, I'd be as skeptical of this figure as any other that has been mentioned in the thread so far.

Just checked the source page for that table of info and it cites Hampden in 2006 as being a sell-out. Anybody who was there would openly vouch that this was far from the case. There was still acres of space at the the back of the arena and hundreds of empty seats in the stands.

Wikipedia also says Twickenham was a sell out
