Before this tour, I would have said Richie no doubt, but Jon pulled it out of the bag on this tour with some great vocal performances on this song specifically. Richie still has a big part in it too, so I would keep it as it has been this tour with JBJ on lead vocals.

Would love to have Richie sing one of his own songs instead, I understand that they want him to sign a BJ song to prevent an exodus but I think they should ignore that and give Richie his deserved moment in the spotlight with one of his own songs.

Jon hands down. I loved when Richie sang it but after a while I yearned to have Jon back on vocals. When they played the TLFR version I was happy to have it back but that version sucks.I had given up hope that I would hear Jon again. When Richie sang These Days on the LH tour that was also great to hear but its Jon's singing that was needed. I love their harmonies on IBTFY, their voices just have that magical something. When I first knew they were bringing it back with Jon on lead I was hoping that I'd get to hear it and I did. Philly 2010, night 1.It was a great moment. I am emotionally connected to the Jon version. When Richie was absent, I hoped I wouldn't hear it but they played it. It was sad not hearing Richie sing with Jon but he did the ad-libs and it was the highlight of the show.

I say next tour it should be played but not every night.

I can't say.. I was only pissed that they did quite boring version on this tour. In the 02 it was the most boring anyone could imagine, almost no interaction adlibs or solo. At least this year Jon added the break and some adlibs but still no solo and the outro solo has always been what I was waiting for...

So after 3 tours of Richie being the one who mainly sang I'll Be There For You, Jon took the mic on all performances this tour (except for ONE SHOW), and it wasn't the sub-par This Left Feels Right version. It got many rave reviews, probably because it was fresh to the ears (and probably because Richie took over Homebound Train, at least for a little while). But who do you prefer singing it: Jon, or Richie?

I prefer Jon. Richie's version was, and is, fantastic, with the soulful vocals and the long outro solo. But I still would prefer Jon here, as I would on any Bon Jovi song. That's the way I got to know the song, and that's the version that is in my top 5 Bon Jovi songs.
Jon's version better absolutely. (but not as good as Rio in 1990: )

Richie's vocals have gone to shit...and im afraid to say his guitar playing....(probably will get me tons of abuse - but its just my opinion.) Richie's best vocal days are well behind him back in 1998 - his best probably Little Help From My Friends back in 1998 live.

But does anyone think the live versions of IBTFY in the Circle Tour were too quick?

Jon.

But I would probably rather Richie sing I'll Be There For You than Lay Your Hands on Me.

Richie. Lucky enough to have seen both now and of course I wouldn't say no to hearing Jon sing it since every time I hear it live I fall back in love with it but I think Richie just gave it a bit more of an edge

The song is made for Jon and Richie singing it together.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. They rushed through it, and hurt the integrity of the song a little bit, IMO. Just look at compared to . It's better when slower.

Both of 'em have very prominent parts in the original version so of course that's the one I want to hear.
