From Rock In Rio '10:

3:53 ^^^

'I'd love ya, I'd squeeze ya' - Since when has he been singing that?

Anyway, his voice on this song in particular is a lot stronger I think. It's still got that weird reaching sound, but his tone when singing lower is better and he is starting to get a nice range before the solo on this and 'Livin' On A Prayer'.

It is all individual.

My friend's grandma was a heavy smoker, lived till 80 and died of non-smoking related disease. My school mate smoked and she died of lung cancer when she was 25.

My neighbour was a heavy drunkard and he did not have any health problems till he was 60. Some of my friends took to drining, did not manage to drink half of that this man did and started to show some symptoms of alcohol-related diseases when they were quite young.

David Bowie at al did smoke 40 cigarettes per day and they preserved perfect voices till they were over 60. Jon Bon Jovi smoked for 15 years and it did not do him good. He quit and his voice is better abd better and he is able to put on such an amazing show as that in Madrid.

No rule. Just individual thing. But the individuals who are invincible and not affected by smoking/drinking are rather exceptions, whereas the majority has to face the consequences.

I personally am very happy with the fact that one of the best voices in rock music is no longer ruined!

Unfortunately, it is ruined and always will be. You should be saying "it's no longer getting ruined", these effects are permanent. The thing that has been fixed is his breathing. He may increase his vocal range even more than he did the past 2 years, but sadly his lovely tone he had in 80s and 90s is gone forever.
BTW, another great post, marta anna

thanks

BTW I wanted to say what you meant. I used simply the wronmg grammatical structure. Yes, it is no longer getting ruined. Yeah... A good thing is only that even if it is damaged permanently some of it can be still regained. It will never be as it was but when breathing gets back to normal and the vocal chords are cleansed of the tar (though organic damages will never be removed) we will probably still be able to witness more such shows as that in Madrid, which was simply brilliant!

I love this song also, but Bobby should quit playing the solo or at least rework it somehow, the amount of time e spends on that one note in the beggining just looses all momentum, and that little lick he should vary it a bit or add more notes to it. Just a thought.

Completely agree, Couldn't have said it better myself. Like I've said before, Its just boring, I reckon 95% of the people on this board could either replicate or play that solo better than Bobby..
