No. I’ve never watched that show in my life. Until you write a song, you’re nothing more than a glorified lounge singer with a cover band. Without a song, even if you’re lucky enough to be on American Idol, a year from now, you’re back in the lounge. You’ve got to write a song. That’s it. Without going down to the bar, and learning how to entertain an audience and opening for people, it’s all disposable.

Let me preface my statement with the disclaimer that I adore Jon and I don't like to criticize...but this comment irks me a little bit. I am in total agreement that many of the contestants on AI are hacks, but several are legitimate musicians that HAVE been trying to struggle through the business. Im sure many are also songwriters, but it isn't as if the show welcomes original material. AI is all about promotion. The music world has changed since Bon Jovi began. Unfortunately, getting noticed is more important, initially, than being talented. Besides, Bon Jovi supplied Bo with original material....

I sound like an AI cheerleader *lol* I am not, but I know that I would not be above going on the show to promote myself even though it essentially presents "glorified lounge singers" It is up to the individual to do something with their fame once they achieve it.

But, the unfortunate thing is that AI has complete control over the record that the winner makes. The winner doesn't get to write or contribute much of anything. Now, IF (big IF) they can sustain their success once the AI deal is up (I think the contract is 3 years) then they would be able to make what record they wanted, if they have the talent to write and play that is. I think the downside of AI is it makes the road to fame almost look a little too easy, meaning, you go on AI, get your 15 minutes and BAM, record deal or at least some door is opened for you even if you don't win. The days of playing in bars and paying your dues seems to be long gone.

And the Bon Jovi on Bo's record is because of John Shanks who I'm sure asked for the song since he knew they weren't going to use it.

So, I do tend to agree with Jon's "it's all disposable" comment.

I think a "nostalgia" act is one like Warrant (if they're even together this week) or Poison (I believe they are together at the moment). People will go see them in small venues for the hits they remember, but their new CDs aren't selling millions of copies around the world. Their ability to tour is based on past success, not a continuation of success.

"How tough is it to stay happily married as a rock star?

You know, that’s one of the great fallacies of the business. It’s just what I do for a living. It’s not like I make my kids applaud when I come down the stairs in the morning. There’s no theme song that plays when I walk into the kitchen."

Gutted!

I always liked the idea that Jon made his kids applaud him when he arose from his slumber every morning to show a bit of respect!!! And that the sound system in the Bongiovi mansion was rigged up to be activated by Jon's presence and play Livin' on a Prayer every time he entered a room!

My vision is ruined (sob sob)
