Bobby was around before Richie started having any 'problems'. My impression is that Jon likes the fuller sound and some of the new songs require additional guitars, and Bobby did offer a buffer when Richie was struggling. Nowadays he's a hindrance rather than a help as far as I'm concerned.

As for setlists being tailored for Richie, that might be true IF they weren't picking out the rare songs outside of Europe Becky. Your theory falls short on that one.
But you can't even hear Bobby on songs except when he does his Pile 'o' Sh!t solos.

Bobby makes an apparent difference, maybe not that obvious to the untrained or unnatentive ear, but I'm a dork like that

I also think that the pressure of playing most of the songs with the click track is probably not helping the live feeling of the gig. They could have a silent moment after the hand solo, looking at the crowd all cocky before the riff starts, like the do with Whole lot of leavin', except it would be a lot more Rock'n'roll of them with the HAND song..... in fact, replace Whole lot of Leavin with Hand and you have a much better starting section, but that's another discussion all together.....

I think the opposite. The guy looks thrilled to death half the time to play something different like Wild Is The Wind. He was ready to play In & Out of Love at the O2 and seemingly was also very happy to give Stick To Your Guns an airing back on the lost Highway tour.

He's lazy, yes but it's largely boredom.

It's a factor that helps too...

I like that idea. It would be something like this with maybe even a longer pause.

Thank you. YES. He IS doing some different stuff, it's just not as in your face as Richie's style of playing, and that's fine. Like I said in the other thread, note what Bobby was playing doing "It's Hard Letting You go" at the 02. It's amazing.

Anyone who says having Bobby there prevents them from doing different stuff is full of it. For whatever reason, since Bobby joined a LOT of songs have come up we never thought would be played again. Would I prefer it if it were just the 5 of them? Totally. But I'd rather Bobby there then Dave sampling.

It's just weird. He can do that and do a nice guitar thing at the beginning of Whole Lot of Leaving, yet he just bombs the In These Arms solo.

He's not that bad. Look at this solo (Always 15.07.2010)
Somehow chaotic, but with a bit of soul
