I watched the video, you can see when he does it. It's the way he moved his leg - he kinda kicked it forward then back too quickly.

I'd guess it's the same kind of thing that happens when you move your neck too quickly, and you get that painful crick in it.

Using crutches is good, but using them for a day and throwing them away for the performance is not going to do him much good.

Get a chair and sit down. That'd be the smart thing to do - if he makes it worse, he won't have a choice but to cancel the concerts, which will ruin it for the rest of the fans.

Does anyone have a full vid of Prayer where Richie carries him off the stage or something? The ones I've seen don't even show the entire song.

I thought it was David, not Richie, who carried him off the stage. Which for me was a bit strange, because I always thought that Richie is the biggest guy in the band and therefore the strongest????

If you want a video with the final bow, it is here:

Thanks for the vid! I don't know who carries him off, I'll have to watch the video to find out.

I don't who the strongest guy is, but out of David and Richie, I'd guess Richie.

Hey Makkede

Browsing for the today's show I came by accidentally accross this video
Here it is seen well how they descended the scene. Really nice to see how everyone is trying to be helpful!

BTW Do not worry about the injury. Muscle tear is damn painful, but it is 100% repairable, provided that you are patient enough and rest your muscle untill it self-heals. You do not need any special treatment apart from that. Maybe some physical therapy. I have been crazily committed to sport, unfortunately only as an amateur, for almost my entire life and had had several muscle problems. And given time (sometimes a few months ) they healed on their own with adequate rest.

the worst thing is that if you're exercise addicted (which is the case of the large part of the very active amateur sport -freaks like me and probably like Jon) you are ready to accept ANY therapy APART from resting. You find that a day without workout is a day wasted!

but with time and with experiening more and more injuries you learn in the end that when you refuse to rest the expected amount of time things are aggravated and then you HAVE TO REST EVEN TEN TIMES more than was originally required. With that knowledge you learn that the deal does not pay and you will not try to push yourself any more.

from what I happened to see in the videos of the past two shows Jon is not trying to violate his muscle. He does not move too much (just think about the NJ era when he had injuries and he was still bouncing and jumping like crazy!). He is not just sitting, it is true. But the injury occurred a few days ago and probably 24-48 hours is sufficient for a muscle to heal so much as to make you able to put weight on it. You can stand or walk slowly and these are the only activities that I could see Jon is taking up. I am sure that his leg is supported by some elastic band or anything to make it stable and shock-resistant when he walks. So long as he is not trying to jump or make any vigorous movements I think he will not cause any additional harm to his muscle

From my point of view there is a lot of heroism not only in the fact of not giving up the show but also in your NOT TRYING TO FORCE THE MUSCLE and deciding to restrict your stage movements and activities. If you are extremely extremely active for your entire life it takes a lot of will power to force yourself not to exercise! probably it is not so with the professional sportsmen like eg Phelps or Pellegrini. They treat their bodies as a kind of "machine" for generating results and it is obvious to them that if the machine is "out of order" they are simply not expected to workout or compete. But sports- crazy non-professionals are so stupid that they MUST run and jump and swim everyday not matter what. Otherwise they feel depressed. If the rest therapy is supposed to last for a couple of weeks or months it really requires all effort of one's will to stay off any workout Believe me!

I hurt my calf a few weeks ago while on vacation in Canada. It was so painful that I couldn't put any weight on my leg and had to rent a wheelchair for the reminder of the trip. It was either that or sit in my hotel room all day.

Turned out mine was just a sprain and it hurt like hell. A tear is much more serious and more painful. I noticed it right away that night, and just by Jon's facial expressions figured it was more serious than just a sprain. I just hope he rests it whenever he can. I still haven't gone back to exercising because my calf still doesn't feel 100% and still have some tightness.

By the way I also agree with crushgen, I do think a few more songs were coming after "Glad All Over"

Hm... After listening to the interview with Jon I do not know what to think. Indeed, it seems to be quite serious. Maybe indeed he should cancel some dates so as not to risk chronic injury?

As to your injury - I can imagine your pain and frustration. What I was writing was simply based on my experience. I had a strained groin twice in my life - once when I was still in elementary school practicing acrobatics/gymnastics and then two years ago due to overtraining and weakening my muscles by excessive jogging and swimming. In both cases it took me almost a year to fully recover and in both cases I recall that the first week after the injury was indeed tough. But I could put SOME (not much) weight on my limb and walk very very very slowly. And I simply went on with my ordinary schedule - i.e. went to school/work.

I can imagine how your sprained muscle could cause absolute inability to walk (it must have been terrible). I never happened to be totally "handicapped" for such a long period of time, but I think these things are to some extent individual.

Back to to Jon - after listening to the interview I fear that he proabably relies too much on painkillers, which dull the pain but at the same time remove the natural warning symptom
Proabably physiotherapy, chiropractics and acupuncture, as he said somehow helps him to make quicker progress.
Let's believe that whatever he does is under controll and he will not end up with chronic injury. I wish noone such a terrible thing. Especially if one is used to day to day training for the whole of one's life!
