With Jon being the clever man he is, I think that if he wanted he could avoid the situation. Writing songs that sound great in the studio with the help of technology, but live are a different story will bring the criticism, because obviously he can not hit some notes anymore, that's not a smart choice.

Most fans are used to the "jovi sound", and that's what they seem to demand, other fans (me included) would love for them to write honest songs, with great music and great lyrics, that doesn't seem to come out of the assembly line in a rush to fit the times, even if this means less power and high notes.

Although I also have to agree with whoever said, that is a matter of training your voice and not really age. Most opera singers are "old" and their voices are powerhouses.

^^Yeah blaming Jon's vocal detioration on age just doesn't make any sense, I wonder why so many people do it.

You can lose a bit of range with age but what has happened to Jon is much more serious; apart from range he has had a total change of tone, loss of power and ability to pronounce his lyrics etc... It maybe smoking (I don't know), but it's obviously not just age.

What bothers the most is the nasal Jon even if it's better today it's still laughable at times .... I don't know the pronunciation is also bizarre sometimes ...I dislike with passion superman tonight but it has to do with the way he bleats the supermeeeeeeeeeeen thing

It is smoking. My dad was a great singer but once he picked up smoking, his voice lost the richness and the tone in his voice, and the same thing happened to jon.

Jon needs to stop smoking, otherwise he will mess up that voice even more

He quit smoking right before this tour.

That's never been confirmed by anyone but just a rumour that shows up every time Jon hits a certain note. Once he sounds shit people assume he picked up smoking again, even though he's been smoking for a long time now. As long as he doesn't permanently stop as opposed to "I'll stop for now because I need to sing during the next few months" nothing will change.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

You should remember that there have been numerous articles last spring about how Jon quit smoking to save money for insurance. And all of them had Jon's quotes about why he quit and how he did it (by throwing them into garbage). And as a fan who loves to bitch about everything I'm sure you don't believe this, but there's can no possibly be any better evidence than Jon's own words. If he didn't quit, then seeing him with a cigarette would prove it wrong, but if he really did, then there's no way to prove it.

you are too naiveWalleris .. sorry but IF it's in an article IT DOES MEAN it's true ... . ...LIke he is NOT doing the dishes at the robin hood restaurant the more he says he does it the less true it is ... it is selling tools

interviews are done to give an image of jon or the band it's not necesseraly the reality but what they want to sell as their real image .... today i'ts politically correct to not smoke and pretend to CARE about insurance RATE

we have absolutely ZIPPO reliable info that Jon definitely quit smoking
and I am one of those who think it's probably just PART of the voice issue anyway ...Jon damaged his vice by not taking care of it for years and years ...
and also Jon is maybe not always ok to GIVE more than the time he spends on stage to the performances ... he is not that interested in taking care of his voice (not necesseraly training hard but just being cautious ..not speak too much for example) and working on it ..he does work out for his body because it is instant reward to have a female audience who screams at his almost 50 years old butt shaking routine and shirt ripping but the voice work is not the reward that please his ego the more easily ....it's too much work and not enough visible ego booster
Jon is someone who counts and calculates VERY WELL his work to be the more efficient time/money /reward/ego WISE ..... the voice work is too demanding and not enough instant rewarding and with the today tools you can 'cheat' anyway about your voice but you cannot cheat about your abs .. he runs daily ... all his work seems focused on his looks and there is just 24 hours in a day ....

No, I'm not too naive (at least not in this situation). Off course it's not 100% reliable but there's nothing else to deny that. I mean Jon confirmed that himself and yes that doesn't neccesarily mean that it's complete true, but until we see anything that proves that article wrong, we can't say that it's a lie either. I see this thing as a typical miserable Jovi diehard viewpoint - Jon said one thing, so because we're smart fans, that means the truth is exactly the opposite. I'm sure that if it was Tico who said in an interview that he had quit smoking, nobody would question if it's true or false. But because it's Jon, that means double standarts. So there was one thing. Another thing is the image thing. Why would Jon lie that he quit smoking (and even admiting that he did it for the wrong reasons)? If he thinks that smoking has a negative effect on his image why would he show himself with a cigarette in his mouth on WWWB documentary MULTIPLE TIMES? I don't see that making too much sense.
