Default jon's struggle in the 2003-2006 period

It's like there's not a single video on youtube from that era in which he sings brilliant or anywhere near that. on the other hand, the 2002 gigs have some amazing performances... I never really got what happened to his voice in 2003 ? was he smoking more then ? or were his vocal cords just givin in ?

Jons voice was fine, he could howl his balls off if he wanted to (5.30 - 6.00). He got lazy/complacent.

There are some great performances from the Bounce tour, but then again, there's also some of the worst the band has given. That Blaze of Glory performance from late on in the tour is the one that comes to mind immediately.....

That's actually a good performance musically. It's Jon's voice that lets it down. And no matter how bad it got, why sing a line like...

'ONA Sing songs in a REEEEEIIIIIIIIIIN'?

What's that about?

THAT is amazing. He should sing like that all the time.

After 2006 he started working with a new vocal coach and she has changed his singing technique. Most likely his voice is still damaged, a shadow of what it was in 1990 in terms of range, power and tone. But in the last few years I think he has learned how to make the most of what he has left, plus he stopped smoking. He has gone downhill again in the last 2 months- started singing nasal and whingy once more but lets hope it's temporary.

It doesn't do any harm that since '08 songs like Always and DC have appeared on the setlist, it's good to stretch his voice sometimes on the harder to sing songs.
