U2 actually has a piano/guitar player under the stage at every show

I'm not surprised at all. I was very close at my show, and Jon dropped a lot of words, at the end of some lyrics. So, others in the rest of the band had to be filling in for him, and/or they were using backing tracks, etc. It was too obvious.
I think a lot of fans would be very surprised at what is under the stage. At my recent show I ran into Richie's guitar tech and asked him about the teleprompter, he just said it's sort of like karaoke. I told him that there was a lot of discussion online about whether it was a teleprompter or an iPad. He seemed a bit surprised by that, but glad that it got people's attention or something to that effect. (Glad people were talking about the band, in general, I think is what he meant. It was so loud, at that point, that I had trouble hearing him.)
I remember seeing lyrics taped to the floor, but these days the guys could not see lyrics taped to the floor. (Too far away.) So, the teleprompter allows them to adjust the size of the words, the spaces between lines, etc.
That's only one small piece of equipment that the band uses. And, I'm sure that, even though it's always there, each member of the band, does not need it for every song.
I SEE nothing wrong with the band using them. I do wish they would switch to iPads though, and wonder why they don't?
