This is actually the part I really liked on this tour as he sings it higher than in earlier days. But then again, we don't seem to agree on many things

Many people like it so you're certainly not alone. It just feels so forced to me. There's nothing spontaneous or passionate. It's like he's building up to that line and using that as his 'moment' for the fans to go 'WOW!' regardless of how the rest of the song is sung.

Agreeing with each other would be boring.

I'm one of those who LOVE how he sings that line nowadays. When Jon does that high note in key (unlike Hyde Park) it really sounds beautiful. The way I see it is he's unable to make the big scream later in that verse, so instead he's trying to make up for it with a higher note instead

I really prefer how he sung them in 90s - flawlessly with his beautiful clean voice and not trying to dublicate those overproduved vocals he did. Although it was funny how he and John Shanks tried to imidate that 80s raspy singing style in Bells Of Freedom
I agree. His voice was phenomenal in the 80's, but his style got a little funny. It was good on some songs (BTBMB, NSG, Bad Med, Wanted, among others), but bad on others. I prefer most of the 80's songs live, usually from the New Jersey, Keep the Faith, These Days, and Crush/OWN Tours. For example, I prefer hearing Prayer from the 1993 or 2001 than I do the studio version. The only studio version of an 80's song that I listen to regularly is Wanted. I personally think Jon's voice hit its peak in 1993, though my favorite tour would be the One Wild Night tour.
