Re: Jon's voice

I sing for a part of my living (though not professionally trained and don't claim to be an expert). IMO, JBJ is way too tight when he goes for the high notes. Look at his shoulders. They are up over his ears and he is gripping the mic like grim death. He could change his strained "eeeeees" to "ahhhhhhs" and open things up more and, while he'd still be bad at pronunciation, at least it wouldn't be so painful to watch.

I'm not with him and don't know if he's used a vocal coach or not. If he has, either he needs to fire his vocal coach today or he's ignoring all advice (or he's not using a coach at all).

Steven Tyler is 65 years old today. This video is from May 2013 (there are also later ones available)
He hits every bit of not in original keys with ease. Even the screaming in the end. Just like that. And it's been like that for last 30 years..

So don't try to sell me 'he-is-getting-older-and-his-vocals-arechanging' story..
I also don't think Tyler is non-smoker, so there goes that theory..

He either needs to see vocal coach and start practicing in off-time, or go to some kind of a throat surgery to spread his pipes or whatever..

Jon is more worried about his hair implants than with her voice.

Every human being is different, not everyone can have the same physical or intellectual qualities. Steven is lucky, because his voice still holds up well.

Steven's case is very unusual and he has several operations.

I do not mind the vocals, I do not care if Jon nailed (or not) the notes, but when he sings without passion, without feeling as in this routine tour, is alarming.

I do not need perfection, just the passion.

Actually, all of Tyler's high pitched vocals and screams are piped in. He's not singing them. He can't anymore. Check YouTube for any recent live performance of Dude Looks Like a Lady. He lip syncs the opening lines. It's common knowledge among the Aerosmith fan base.

Eh? Aerosmith have done over 500 shows in the past 15 years. Not all of them were 2-3 hour shows, but still. Steven Tyler only started avoiding the risky stuff since the last few years. He never dodged a high note or anything, and is still moving a lot more than Jon did this past tour.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

What are you talking about? They've been on tour every year since 1997.

Salaam Aleikum,

Tyler definitely is a more entertaining frontman these days but he doesn't sing those high notes! It's a backing track just like Jon uses for the line "livin on a prayer" before the guitar solo.

Nope, not a backing track. It's a combination of him and Russ Irwin nowadays, with Irwin (keyboard player) being higher in the mix. Like I said, he's only started avoiding the more difficult stuff since the last few years. There are only a few cases where there is a backing track going (the intro to (Dude Looks Like A Lady)) because he just can't do it anymore, but he's never been as much out of key/breath/flat as Jon has been for the past tour. Keep in mind that Steven Tyler is 10 years older. When he was at the age of Jon, Steven Tyler was pretty much in his prime vocally.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
