If bootlegs gave you the whole experience, you would never go to shows.

It's Hard Letting You Go stands out in my memory from '96 for the sheer power of Jon's performance as a frontman. The whole stadium was absolutely captivated. There's no way that's coming across on a tape.

I never said they gave the whole experience, nor did I mean to say that.

That could very well be but still. You can hear it if Lost Highway doesn't work as an opener. You can hear it if Last Man Standing doesn't work. You can hear it if My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms or All I Want Is Everything doesn't work. You don't actually need to be there to be capable of judging those things and there has never been a song of which I thought that wouldn't work that actually worked. I'm sure many people who collect bootlegs feel the same.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

HA, right. An adult opinion. If actually were an adult you'd understand you're being a hypocrite.

Yes, meh to NSG. I think it's overrated. I'd take many other songs acoustically over that. Runaway, I'd Die for You, Diamond Ring, Love for Sale, etc. NSG is one big cliche.

If we started disowning Bon Jovi songs because they're cliched, no one would be here talking.

Can't we have the ones that do both?

Nowhere did I say his opinion doesn't matter, but the idea that all opinions hold equal merit is patently false.

Sounds to me like a case of the Mondays : )
My point was that, especially in a case like this, opinions are equal.
For example, I think Hard Letting You Go is one of the weakest Bon Jovi songs. I know a lot of people disagree with me, but that doesn't make my opinion any less valid. And by saying he lacked credibility, that is invalidating his opinion.
And yes, I am working on a paper for my Victorian Britain class ATM, so I am a bit pissy

Insults insults insults. It's all you can come up with. Pretty pathetic.

That said, if you can't have fun listening to, for example a song like (It's Hard) Letting You Go, because "you don't want to analyze every technicality" it's pretty obvious who comes across as a mindless drone.

I didn't start the insults, now did I? You can dish it out but you can't take it, and it's absolutely hilarious.

HA. If I want to sit and analyze every technical detail during a live show I'll go to a formal, sitdown philharmonic concert. Thinking that analyzing every technicality at a Bon Jovi show is necessary is like going to see a classical orchestra and thinking about pumping your fist. It's not the time or place either way. And I'm not talking about "the band sounds good today" type of analysis, I'm talking about "oh that Bb chord sounded really good in Have a Nice Day" type of analysis. That isn't needed at a Bon Jovi show to enjoy it.

In regards to Letting You Go, sure, I like listening to the bootlegs of it. I don't think it comes across that well live, but it's still fun to hear that band play it. However, at a concert it would completely kill the mood and energy for me. Would I enjoy it? Sure. Would I rather hear something else that has more energy (any of their rock songs)? Absolutely.
