If you don't like this band then why do you post so much here?

What if you are wrong and the show in Munich is really good - the best in Europe, will you regret not going?

My take on this is that if Bon Jovi didn't experiment and try different styles they probably wouldn't still be around now. I think Jon gets bored with the same old stuff.

Personally Bon Jovi can't win can they? Some people moan that they dislike Lost Highway, others moan that they can no longer perform their older tracks because their voices have deteriorated. So what people really want is for them to release an album more in the style of back in the 80's, but that they won't be able to sing live because they can no longer sing like they used to?

I love Lost Highway, I think its fantastic live and I always have an amazing time at a Bon Jovi concert. I understand that people have to have their own opinions and I respect that, but to be honest I haven't heard any argument deeper than "Lost Highway is crap"

I can't wait until June when I'll be rocking with the band.

People just want a rock album. Not A Slippery Part II, not a These Days Part II and all that stuff. Velvet Revolver's Contraband didn't sound like Appetite For Destruction either, yet it rocked. There are loads of bands who became big in the eighties and yet still know how to make a rock album without sounding like they did in the eighties.

It's that simple.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

This means you have a very different idea of rock than I do. But that of course is only natural and once again comes down to personal taste and perception.
Me, I have an ok country pop cd called Lost Highway by a rock band gone country pop called Bon Jovi.

Is this based on fact? In 2000 they only played one night at Continental Arena here and they didn't play Giants at all. Plus they did a shitload of promo stuff to get their name out there again - small clubs etc.

In 2005-2006 they played 3 nights at Continental and 2 nights at Madison Square Garden and then 3 nights at Giants Stadium to finish off the tour.

So far in 2007 they played 10 nights in Newark.

And that is only in my immediate area. So my perception is that their ticket sales have increased even though the album sales have not. I do realize that this is home territory and you would expect them to be more popular here except that for awhile they couldn't even give tickets away here. That was mostly in the nineties but still....

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

The thing is that Bon Jovi have never been a hard rock band really. They have always been chart/pop/rock act which matured with the These Days album.

These Days is very different to anything else they have done and if you were to ask them they would say that These Days was as much an experiment as Lost Highway is now.

Bon Jovi are about trying to reinvent and experiment and that is why they are still making records. Hopefully next time we will see a more edgy rock album.

Not necessarily. It's just that I think it is a waste of brain to come up with lines à la...

And I don't want to offend you. With the line you quoted I only wanted to express that to me, essentially, Bon Jovi are a rock band. As such they deliver rock records. Whether they were hard or are pop and mellow or whatever.. I couldn't care less. Not that I don't see the differences, I just don't see the need to put it into questionable groups of adjectives.

Pop or country are more than just adjectives, they are music genres just as wide as rock is. And these genres cross over one another, it's more complex than just boxes and surely we can discuss the width of what we call "rock" and what comes closer to that category and what doesn't. Obviously your definition of rock is larger than Seb's, or mine for that matter.

I'd still say BJ, overall, is a rock band but LH, as a whole album, is definitely not a rock record in my book, I think it wasn't even meant to be one.

Of course. I meant when they and more are put together. Maybe I was a little too restrictive with what I said. I just find it amusing at times when people argue like...

They are hair metal with pop influences...
...no, they have never been hard rock.
Exactly, they have always been arena rock with country influences...
...never have they been country influenced.
Pop-rock metal is their genre...
...mellowed to Adult Contemporary.

I am sure Lost Highway was not considered to be non-rocking by the band. Of course, it is not the ultimate new rock definition and maybe there are other genres that fit better nowadays.
But considering the band and the roots of rock music, Lost Highway for sure is of such.
