Default madrid review

hello everybody.

what a night! the concert was pure adrenaline. people that attended to it gave everything to the band. it was the night where everybody began to sing with bounce and didn't stop until the lights turned on.

the guys came up at 21.40 (after the support act, 'pereza', and spanish band who passed without making too much noise). the scenary was too small, they guys where trapped on it. i'm sure it'll be bigger in the rest of the gig... i can't understand why it was so small, as the place where they played was an outdoor olympic stadium.

ok, let's go with my personal feelings about the night...

as they are doing it nowadys, they opened with BOUNCE, and averybody gets crazy. the sound wasn't very good, but the energy was there, and also the conncetion between the boys and the crowd.

they countinued with BAD NAME, and that was the moment they take the crowd on their hand. it's a well known sing-along-song, so people really enjoy it. and as the boys keep on doing since these days, it was followed by WILD IN THE STREETS. it's a good song, and by that time everybody was bouncing, but i think bj should change these song... it seems a bit used, like a 2nd hand car.

and what's next? bingo, PRAYER. with the same introduction as ever, jon singin alone, the crowd shouting and the followed by the rest of the band. there was not rest for us, and in that song i thought i will lose my voice in a moment or two, but i didn't care!

EVERYDAY was the next shot...

then, it came one of my favourites: UNDIVIDED. it began with that 'slow introduction', and people began to light candles. the surprise was when that 'so-called' ballad gets transformated in that heavy song. wow! it was one of the big anthems of the night. never thought it will do so well played live. by this time, i realize the show whas EXACTLY the same they played in barcelona 2 nights ago. last theys, as i said in this forum, i was angry about tha fact they didn't chage the set list. in that moment, i wasn't concerned about it. they could have been played undivided all night and you will not hear me complain... that's the magic of this band.

KEEP THE FAITH was full of power, it's amazing what they have done to this song. no major changes on it, but enough changes to make it sound fresh and alive. more bouncing on this one!

with WANTED cames the 1st rest for my legs... but not for my voice. nothing more to say about the song. its title says enough.

mmmm, and then i cames a bad surprise. i always loved THE DISTANCE when i hear it on bounce... but i think it's not a song to be played live. it lose some feeling, some sound... i can't explain it better, but i don't get into it live.

IT'S MY LIFE: broken throats, broken legs, broken hands... the stadium was going to crush down. 100 % pure energy...

with MISUNDERSTOOD the things get calmed again. good chorus to make people sing. and this was the 1st time in the concert jon gets a bit serious. maybe what i mean is that he get quiet :P

and for the next song, it was a good surprise 4 me. they played SATURDAY NIGHT, a song that is not of my favourites . but it gain a lot played live. i always considered this song as a 'constant song': no changes from the beggining to the end. and it was amazing to see all the colour they have given to it. GREAT.

now, the 1st change from barcelona night: instead of right side of wrong, they played JUST OLDER. what a change! i love it!

after a littel break (no more than 1 minute), it cames the center of the night. it was a magic moment when jon says: 'ricardo sambora va a cantar una cancion' (he say it in spanish!!!! that richie sambora was going to sing a song). and he made I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU the warmest song i've ever heard. it's incredible: i hear richie sing this song a thousand times, but this night was... i can't explain. it was warm, intimate, soft. it really emotionated me (and i prefer hard rock songs to ballads). very very magic. and richie noticed it, so he made it a little longer.

jon came again to stage, and they played BLAZE OF GLORY. good song, but i'm a bit tired of it.

with the next songs i needed air, i think the crowd was going to explode. 1st one was RUNAWAY. it's great to see that after 20 years the song didn't lose a bit of its strengh. even more, it gained! and then BORN TO BE MY BABY, which gets all of us very near heaven...

then, SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD, good as always but with one good addition: they have quit the 'uoooooooooo yeaaaaaaaaaah' part. well done. and they finished the 1st par of the concert with RAISE YOUR HANDS. i've been all my life to enjoy this song live, so no comments! i only have one desire left: to hear neurotica live.

big big surprise on the encores:

THESE DAYS came as the 1st song 4 the 2nd part. the people there really appreciate the song, and it was great, even if at the begining the band seems to be a bit nervous playing it, as if they need some more practise.

they get things very cold with CAPTAIN CRUSH. never liked this song, and i can understand they played if people in general liked it, but what they get was all the people quiet and not very good surprised. they only make the people react when they began to make the crowd move their hands from side to side. a very bad song to be played on the encore, as most of the people didn't react to it (it wasn't the only song in which happened that).

the final bomb cames with three songs: TWIST & SHOUT, BAD MEDICINE and SHOUT. i've heard them thousend times, but they keep on rocking.

and that's was all, folks. be aware, they are going to catch u!!!
