Interesting you should say that. In 2008 Bon Jovi played Perth not long after Heath Ledger died, and Jon came out during the encore in a Joker shirt but didn't actually say anything. It was a sweet touch.

I dunno. I probably dreamt that, sounds like something I'd dream about
I think MJ was meant to meet them and didn't or something so Tico stole Bubbles? Eh it was a long time ago, I can't really remember.

well in my opinion i still believe MJ had a bigger impact on music and entertainment in general and that day will be remembered forever. i think John lennons and elvis's deaths were massive but i just think that MJ's death DATE will be better remembered thats all

Remembered, sure. Remembered better? Doubt it. They have "Death Week" in Memphis where people STILL gather in the name of Elvis to celebrate his life and commemorate his death. I'm not saying people won't do the same thing for MJ in 35 years, but even if they do, it won't be unique to MJ. I also don't believe MJ had a "bigger" impact on music than either John Lennon or Elvis. But I'm not sure how you'd go about quantifying that anyway.

what i remember is he died and they found him with his nose fallen off, didn't know the date till I saw the thread
while he sang some great songs and I could understand a Jovi medley including a snipppet of a song I think the overwhelming negative opinion of his personal life would keep the band from making any mention if they even noticed.

The overwhelming negative opinion? 50 shows sold out within the hour.

Elvis is not a pimple on Michael Jackson's vitiligo blotched fanny. Elvis just stole a bunch of black music and made it safe for white people. He was talented and an entertainer, to be sure, but his music never really changed or evolved. Whereas Michael Jackson pushed the style of his music from Jackson 5 through his last album. Elvis brought some fun to music, to be sure, but Michael Jackson is responsible for the vast majority of mainstream music today- the good and the bad. Think about it- the dancing, the showmanship, the performance, not to mention the songwriting and vocals, which were (usually) excellent. No one comes close. And most performers today- Bon Jovi included- owe at least part of their livecraft to the bar MJ set.

John Lennon, maybe. Definitely worth more of a shit than Paul anyways.

Dude, this is why you are one of my favorite people on here to discuss thing with, cause you and I seem to disagree on almost everything.

And IMO Lennon's death (because of the way he died) is the most memorable of the three, as far as the actual "day of death" thing.

It's hard to believe it's been one year.

just some news there on the monkey front... here's a summary from the michael francis (bodyguard) book...

Bon Jovi and MJ were in Japan at the end of the SWW tour. According to Francis BJ had floor 13, MJ floor 14 of the same hotel. Apparently MJ said he'd join Bon Jovi onstage on the last night at the Budokan - just a verbal agreement. An hour before the show takes place, despite security and backstage arrangements in place, MJ pulls out. Jon=gutted. After the gig they go out to party and returning to the hotel at 2am 'boisterous and still pissed off at Michael Jackson'...

Quote:
"Congregated in the hotel bar, we elect to teach Jacko a lesson. A call is made to Jacko's personal trainer, who cares for the star's pet chimpanzee Bubbles when they are on tour... I lead a party of four into the room. Once inside, I explain that the plan has changed: we are taking Bubbles to the bar to meet Jon. The guy panics and pleads with us not to do it, but as I am backing him into a corner, Tico is scooping Bubbles into his arms and scurrying from the room"
...
"Im the bar, we place Bubbles in an armchair. He is a friendly little fellow and a star in his own right... he accepts bananas from us, which we order with our drinks. For two hours, we are expecting a visit from Jacko's security staff, but nobody comes... I take the chimp to my room and watch over him for three hours before returning him to the bodyguards outside Jackson's suite"
Perhaps a cover of Biffy Clyro's "Bubbles"?
