Default MSG shows - Train/hotel?

Any tips? How far is Penn Station from MSG? Also, can anyone recommend a decent hotel within walking distance of both?

Penn Station is literally underneath the Garden. Can't get much closer than that!

As far as hotels go, I'll let someone else speak to that. We stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania (across the street from the entrance to the Garden) when we show a dog at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, but that's only because it is so close. I can't say that I'd actually recommend it! LOL

No kidding? I've gone into Penn Station before (via bus), and I never realized MSG was right there.

Dan, if you go on the Madison Square Garden website there is a link to recommended hotels, I think. Like Terri said, MSG, is on top of Penn Station so definitely a breeze to get there via train.

Look for hotels anywhere around the vicinity of 34th Street and 7th Avenue. There are a lot there that go from reasonable to outrageous, lol!

Penn Station is essentially 1 block away from MSG Dan - but with the way everything connects underground in New York it's right there.

If I were you I would check out the Southgate Hotel - it's across the street and down two blocks and it used to have some of the most reasonable rates in the city.

I checked for the website and it got bought out and is now called the Affinia Manhattan:

It's a nice place - Paul and I have stayed there many times for MSG events.

Thats where we stayed last year and its about 15 blocks from Penn station, it took no more than a 10 min walk. If you're just after basic, clean and cheap i'd recommend that one. And theres a nice little tea and coffee shop next door too
