thanks for explaining. i kinda thought it was something like that. i just don't get the hype they're getting. there have been other 'woe-is-me' songs before this 'emo' thing became popular. surely in the grunge era there were lots of those.

I was a fan of MCR a few years ago. Never saw them live though.

The term "emo" actually refers to "emotional hardcore" ... although recently that seems to have shifted a bit. Very basically, emo could be described as "emotional punk" or "emotional pop-punk".
Which pisses me off - "original" 1980s (and 1990s) emo had nothing to do with the make up, the pretty look and the shiny pop sensibility. I also would say that "emo" is not a real scene with ideals and goals, it's just a collection of teen-angst-driven kids dressing alike.

Just heard this news so had to come back to the board after a while. MCR have to be THE worst band since Arctic Monkeys punctured our ear drums. The world has gone backwards.

This is based on actually having the misfortune of seeing them live at download festival (Couldn't get near Korn - booo! And they were awful! That may heve been due to the fact they were getting booed and bottled by the crowd but who knows.

I just CANNOT believe they are supporting Bon Jovi, it's sacrelige! And people complained about nickelback *rolls eyes*

Because they allowed a teeny bopping woe is me pop group to headline a metal festival - it was carnage, but fun to watch

Haha Live yeah i remember them. They were awful. Well they are a popular band i'll give you that, whether they are good or not is subjective. They have quite an obsessive fan base, wouldn't be surprised if Jovi's past come back to bite them with this one. I can see a lot of people (14 yr old girls rather) buying tix to these gigs and leaving after MCR finish.
