I wonder that too Deb, ... where is Azoff ? Is it still a team with Jon and him or is he gone ?

If anyone is interested, I posted a transcript of the Q&A video over on the "New Album..." thread. Since Jon's response was more about the album than the tour, I thought that would be the more appropriate thread for the details.

I am disappointed to hear this. I thought the only thing that would make Jon be more creative and re-establish that "chip-on-the-shoulder having something to prove" aggression would be to make big changes. Needing new business partners, new musical personnel, new distribution/marketing arrangements--all were things I saw as a plus. This is not a step forward but a step back.

It sounded like the band was together and recording in late summer and into fall. Everything was set for a spring release to be followed by a tour. He is either reworking everything or has used the extra time to write more. I am wondering what major acts will be touring next year that Bon Jovi will be competing against for ticket sales. Maybe his old record company is assuring him enough promotion to be able to continue to play arenas rather than down sizing or scaling back.

For people in the know, is Jon using a different technique with his singing in these videos? To me it sounds as though he is - higher but also a bit softer.

He seems to be hitting the higher notes a little bit more than recent performances but still sounds shit and still looks like he is constipated.

What bugs me with Jon is, he pulls his head back when he sings when he really doesn't need too. It's an acoustic version of 'Seat Next To You', not exactly the most difficult song in the world.

I watched another video of Jon's comments (still looking for the record label and 'sobered up' comments). The camera angle and sound quality were much better, so I caught a couple errors in my original transcript. They don't substantially change anything, but in the interest of accuracy (and because I'm admittedly nit-picky about that kind of stuff) I edited my original post on the "New Album" thread.

I also watched the song videos. Overall, I really don't think Jon sounded as bad as some have said. At least not for the kind of show it is. Granted, I generally prefer the relaxed singer/songwriter setting much more than the pumped-up, high-energy stadium events anyway, although each has its place. And like I've said before, I'm easy. I don't expect perfection - just an honest effort. His delivery seemed to be just that. I was just happy that there wasn't any of the 'going thru the motions' I sensed in some of the Asian or BWC shows.

Gotta say I loved the "hit the road, Jack" addition to "Bad Name". I don't think I've heard that before; but it works very well, IMO.

BTW, if anyone posts a clip of where Jon talked about going back to UMG or the "sobered up" comment, please share it. It's not in any of the comments I've seen so far.

I think he first started doing that Hit the Road Jack thing during MTV Unplugged in 2007. I love it.
