I'm trying to find some more articles on the matter but so far: http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/...does-rick.html

I know a few months (?) ago a female country singer came out of the closet and talked about how John, not knowing she was gay, went on about how wrong homosexuality is, yadda yadda. Like I said, I'm not accusing Jon of dropping him out of the song for these reasons. I'm trying to find more on the subject.

EDIT: http://www.celebitchy.com/100321/joh...f_she_was_gay/ here's something on it.

That's definitely possible, and here's why:

When BJ played The Oprah Winfrey show, I noticed that he changed the lyrics of Have A Nice Day to "Who are you to tell me if it's wrong or right?" It occured to me that maybe he didn't want to say "Who are you to tell me if it's black or white?" in front of Oprah!

Now for a REAL conspiracy theory: The U.S. government is sending warships and troops to Costa Rica, where Bon Jovi may be playing in September. And guess what Costa Ricans call themselves? TICOS!!! Cue the official Bon Jovi Conspiracy Theory Ominous Organ Chord!

Guess what went up on the board less than ten minutes ago--confirmation of BJ gigs in Costa Rica and Peru! NOW will you start taking my conspiracy theories seriously?

Quote:
Chely Wright, 39, was once a sweetheart of the country music world, earning awards and recognition...During the height of her popularity...rumors began to spread that she was gay. During that time, John Rich reached out to her...

Rich asked Wright, “You’re not gay, are you? If you are, people won’t have it!” Wright acknowledges that it was the first time she lied out loud to another person about her sexuality. She told John Rich that she was not...Rich told her, “You gotta hit this gay thing (rumor) head on…it’s sick, it’s deviant, it’s unacceptable to country music fans.”

...John Rich spoke with Access Hollywood about Chely Wright's revelations: "I feel awful that...my decade-old comment - 'Good, thank God' - was taken the wrong way...I was clumsily trying to express my relief that even a country boy like me had a one-in-a-million chance of having a beer with a woman as talented and attractive as Chely...For years after that conversation, Chely invited me to perform at charity events...I wish she would have said something directly to me before (her) book's publicity tour, especially since some of the comments attributed to me in the book are not mine."
(link)
So Chely says John was trying to give her professional advice, and John says he was just trying to pick her up? Other than to point out that there's a difference between "I deny making those comments" and "Comments that have been attributed to me are not mine," I won't take sides. But since neither of them deny that Chely lied to John about her sexuality, and since the encounter made Chely decide that she had to stop living a lie even if it meant the end of her career, I think this story actually has a happy ending!

I don't think it's any different than Jon singing a different line in the first verse of Any Other Day ("my head's still spinning, yeah you know why") or swapping the "out on the run"/"under the gun" in Raise Your Hands. Just the way they do it live now...

Normally I'd agree and chalk this up to a random lyric change ala "...with a guitar on my back" etc. but this is literally making a conscious effort to omit one of the songwriters. Not that we'll ever know for sure.

Maybe he should just start name-dropping whoever the opening act is to make it timely for each show.

I'd prefer he just sang the lyric as, "Getting down with Richie and Jon, and Tico and Dave", if he was going to sing that song at all.
