Re Richie's new song.
I am not a huge fan of that slow style that him and Jon automatically think is emotive because it is slow, when in fact it is boring. However, let's be honest, it is infinitely better than Come Back As Me.
However, I am a huge Elton fan (70s at least) and it took about 10 seconds of Richie singing to know that is a Taupin lyric, in fact I think even someone with passing knowledge of Taupin's work would know that. How much Richie contributed to those lyrics is a mystery, although I don't know why Bernie would get involved unless he heavily influenced the lyrics.
Either way though, why is it even a problem? Elton gets a ton of praise for just writing the music, Richie does it and it somehow takes something away. He still co-wrote the track, and this work lends further credence to the theory that there are avenues for Richie to work in outside Bon Jovi, as long as he readjusts his expectations for what success is or isn't.
I would give the song 4/10 just from personal taste but would prefer an album of that over an album of songs like Come Back As Me.
