You might have seen some clips from Toxic Avenger which is an off Broadway show he and Joe also have in production.

I've said before on this forum, I think Dave has EVERY right to be at the Tony Awards. The Tony's are the biggest night of the Broadway year, and Memphis is up for all the major awards. And yes, I would feel EXACTLY the same if it where a show I was going to.

I actually think this is NOT right.

I feel really pleased Dave is getting all these possibly big honors, but he has a previous commitment to the band, and his day job. Whilst the majority of the crowd probably wouldn't notice the difference, it's the same as Richie not being there or Jon not being there.

Why can't he do a video conference acceptance like every other star with previous commitments does?

If it was my show would I be upset at no Dave??? Only if it was a surprise that he wasn't there and I didn't know why he was missing. Since you know both.......
I agree completely and was going to post this except I don't have to now.

I do know someone who's going to this show and is pretty disappointed. Me, I just hope he scoops the pool. I mean yes the band are his brothers blah blah blah, but look at it this way: For the first time since he was 16 years old he's not in Jon Bon Jovi's shadow.

As for it being a boring awards show, I figured my graduation ceremony would be the same but I still went (and paid for my family to go) because graduating was a big deal to me. And while it was no rock concert, it still turned out to be pretty cool. Obviously that's nowhere near the same as being nominated for a Tony but what I'm trying to say is that maybe it's not the spectacle of an awards ceremony itself, but rather the achievement it represents.

Toxic Avenger is based on an 80s "comedy horror" B-movie so I'd say it's probably supposed to be pisstake at best.

I haven't seen Memphis but I do have the cast recording/soundtrack and it's ****ing amazing; Dave deserves every accolade that comes his way for it.

Toxic Avenger was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

Thank You Brian. I saw it multiple times since I took various kids and friends to see it. I loved it every time - and laughed every time. Was it life-changing entertainment? No - but it sure was fun and the music was good. It made a very enjoyable night out.

When I read about this, my first reaction was that I'm glad it's not my ONE show this tour! I only get ONE show this tour, and I really like seeing them all together if possible.

If Dave were sick or had a family emergency, it would be different, and I'd be thinking he should take care of himself, by all means. I'd have understood this more easily if he missed shows when his father passed away. Instead, he will be at the Tony's and he might win, or he might not.

If he won, and that were announced to the crowd AT the concert, imagine the party atmosphere that would be instantly created. Talk about bringing down the house. He'd be surrounded by people who really were genuinely thrilled for him. On the other hand, if he wins and he is AT the Tony's, then he's surrounded by his competition who might be happy for him, but his co-nominees would possibly be feeling a bit of envy, you know? There's no way they'd be as excited for him as a crowd of Bon Jovi fans.

If he loses, then he's at the Tony's and gets nothing other than the nomination. He could have been at the Bon Jovi party living it up in spite of not getting the award.

I think if it were me, I'd be in London playing those keys for the fans who are there to have a good time! As others have said, acceptance speeches are often given by video via satellite.
