Just got back from Denver and SLC. This Denver show was really very good, the crowd was very into it this time which wasn't really the case the last time or two i was there, hence I think the reason for a slightly different playlist and a couple of special songs. Jon was in good voice and a very good mood.
I saw 4 shows earlier in the tour with Richie and then these two without. For me, whose been watching this band for 26 years or better it's always a bit strange to watch Jon play under the band banner without Richie, however this is the second tour I've done so, and I have to say, my hat goes off to Phil, and to Jon. Phil because twice now i've watched him fly in with no notice, and within a week, settle himself in get himself taught up , and go out there and play his ass off. He's good, I mean he's really, really good. I'm curious in a way, to see what would happen if he really got to settle in and be part of a whole tour, I suspect theres much more to him and his playing than we will ever see on these fill in stints he's done for Richie.
Now before everyone freaks out, I am not in any way saying that Ricjie should not return to the band!!! There is a majic between Richie and Jon that can't be replicated by anyone else and after 30 years it would be a shame if he was no longer apart of what he helped create.
AS for Jon, the man is so busting his balls out there. By the time I first saw them in Louisville, Jon was starting to be in good tour shape and the band was excellent there but Jon was the best I have seen so far in Denver. Great show I had a good time at this one.
