I wonder if he is aware of how bad his voice is now or if he is living in denial.

I'm sure he would have been glad to "let" Dave do the interview if the interviewer had requested an interview with Dave.

I remember a conversation from over 20 years ago where they talked about Jon not wanting to do all the press and Dave had said he wanted to do more press. Jon had stipulated that magazines would have to talk to the other band members in order to get an interview with him--which is why we had interviews with other band members in magazines like Blast, Metal Edge, Circus, etc...

Whether it was a result of smart marketing or dumb luck, I'm glad someone realized that keeping the focus on Jon's teen scream sex appeal would undermine the rest of the band's future musical credibility (right, Bret Michaels and Gwen Stefani?). Besides, Jon WASN'T the only one who the teens were screaming for. By making the entire band available to the press, they quintupled our pleasure, quintupled our fun -- and it worked!

I hope they stipulated that Dave also be interviewed in the near future: it's just smart marketing, and the last thing Jon needs to be doing now is looking too insecure to share the limelight.

Unfortunately, the journalists were bitching about it because they didn't WANT to talk to Tico, Dave, and Alec. They just complied to get the "elusive" interviews with Jon. So it didn't work that well from the journalists' perspectives.

Maybe that's why Bon Jovi DIDN'T name that album One Hundred Million JOURNALISTS Can't Be Wrong!
Keep your eyes on the prize: It's the fans' perspective that counts, and in Bon Jovi's case, they can now "count" to one hundred and THIRTY million!

He's certainly in denial of what he still sees as Richie's defiance: "I swear there was no fight," then with his next breath, "For eighty shows, he didn't show up"? Them's fighting words!

Also interesting to hear Jon talking about long Keith Richards AND Mick Jagger have been performing. Part of that may be due to Mick not living in denial about Keith having at least as much to do with the Rolling Stones' success as he did.

It ain't just a river in Egypt...

Well, no. He's saying there was no fight that led to Richie's departure. Whether that's true or not he's not contradicting himself at all here.

Jon never said Richie didn't have anything to do with Bon Jovi's prior successes. He's not in any way living in denial. He said Richie didn't show up...80 times and he got the message. He said being a rock band isn't a life sentence. He said they would go on without him. That doesn't in any way take away any credit from Richie's part in the success they had before he left. It just means that Richie doesn't dictate what Jon, Tico, and Dave choose to do as a unit in the future.

Jon hasn't said anything negative about Richie in the press. In the Canadian press he said that anyone would be lucky to call Richie a friend--even after this split. I think some of you are looking for drama where it simply doesn't exist.

All Jon said is what he says every single time but in different ways. There is nothing to read into here
