Replace the bolded songs, and you have a salvageable setlist IMO.
I know everyone was ripping on the order, but really you had a big hit (roughly) every 5 songs. I think songs 11-15 would be the biggest lull for casual fans. Honestly, I welcome that many new songs getting an airing, but that's just me.
I agree! I really enjoyed the new songs. It can never be a bad show when WITW is played. It's only the 2nd time I've ever heard it live & was performed way better then the 1st time I saw it at Giants Stadium

Well I'll certainly be trying not to overreact.. glad there is a first-hand account positive experience.

I'll be flying to Europe to see them in June so I'd expect A LOT will change from now to then.

I don't usually post on here, but I just got back from the concert, so I figured I'd post a few things.

1. I thought that the band - including Jon's voice - generally sounded good (similar to the beginning of The Circle Tour).

2. The new stage setup with the video screens was underutilized. They were creative for a few songs, but for most songs, the screens just moved up and down in the same repetitive pattern, and for about half of the songs, they weren't used altogether. The YouTube video from last night showed Jon using the screens as "steps" during We Got It Going On, but he didn't do that tonight. It seemed like perhaps the "steps" were too small for him to safely navigate. It almost seemed like the video screens weren't working properly for some of the songs, but they were working fine for others. There were no fan videos on either Keep the Faith or Livin' on a Prayer. We Weren't Born to Follow didn't have the Obama-style images, and Have a Nice Day didn't have the smirks. The only video that was similar to the last tour was When We Were Beautiful.

3. If I'm not mistaken, they started and ended every song separately, whereas on previous tours, they would often "flow" one song into another. This added to the already slow pace of the setlist.

4. At some point, Jon explicitly said something like, "Be patient. We have alot of hits coming, but we're not one of those bands that just plays old songs every night. I'll quit before I let that happen."

5. As someone mentioned earlier, Jon made a mistake at the beginning of Have a Nice Day. He started singing one measure too early at the beginning, stopped, and then started again at the correct time.

6. Most of the audience didn't seem to know any of the new songs or Wild is the Wind, and Jon even had to explain what album Wild is the Wind was from afterwards.

7. At the beginning of Who Says You Can't Go Home, Jon asked if anyone in the pit could sing, making it seem like he was going to do the same thing as last night (bringing someone on stage with him), but then he didn't.

8. Jon left the stage during the outro of Keep the Faith and reappeared on the circle after the extended outro (similar to the outro of Lay Your Hands on Me on the last tour when Phil X replaced Richie).

9. While You Give Love a Bad Name may not be ideal as the first song, they did "blend" it into the intro music well, so it didn't start the way it usually does.

That's all I can think of for now.

Default DC 2/10/13: Well, It Ain't 1986 Any More.

All,

Keeping in mind, I've been a hard core fan since '84 and have seen Bj well over 30 times, here's the deal and the realy skinny for similia hard core fans....it ain't 1986 any more.

Ok, fine....it's 2013. Two tickets on upper tier 1, 3/4 toward the back cost nearly $500. Awful looking Tshirts were $50/ea.(really). Will get those later on Ebay for cheaper. Beer? $9/ea. The beer seemed like a better investment. The floor seats I read were $400/ea, while the pit was $1700/ea. I keep saying, "it's 2013, ok.".

Simply put, the band is getting old like the rest of us. I used to leave BJ concerts dripping in sweat from dancing so much, and now when one looks around, people sway, wave their hands, move their shoulders. And sit. No one was breaking a sweat tonight. That includes our beloved band.

Someone once said on this board that BJ doesn't make rock n roll anymore. That's partially true....they've fully immersed themselves into a contemporary rock band, something alot safer than what they used to be. Now, keeping in mind the acoustics in the Verizon Center suck ass, the guitars weren't sharp, the drums muffled. The stage design was completely inconsiderate for the other folks that paid $200/seat to sit behind the stage as the backdrop that rose and fell sometimes completely blocked the back. Buyer beware...do NOT buy those seats!!

There was also not as much happening on stage though. Except for a few times when he moved around the outer stage perimeter, Jon stayed in one place. Richie hardly existed, and it could have been anyone playing guitar tonight.

The new songs sound cool but again, it's not rock and it's clear we'll never see Jon flying out of the stage floor for the intro of Let it Rock. He sauntered on, sauntered off.

Could I read this guy's a mind? A little, we all could when he played a block of the new songs, and literally, most of the stadium crowd was sitting. I've never seen a performer ask a crowd of their faithful followers to "be patient". And then ask everyone to get back on their feet when the old stuff came back (think about that...he saw people sitting and told people to satnd up when the new stuff was over...the man could see the energy just let the room)...but those songs really didn't...there was no edge, no hard guitar. They didn't quite phone it in but i wold have felt somewhat robbed if my ticket cost was any higher. Thank god I didn't waste money on that tshirt.

Jon asked the crowd to be patient twice, and I get it...they need to play some new tracks to sell the album. But he could feel the vibe flee the stadium once the crowd couldn't recognize the third song. As he said, they're still making music rather than touring will a greatest hits albums and talking about the old times. But I used to sweat and dance in those old times, not sway my shoulders, and tap my foot to Captain Crash. As someone alluded to, anything past 2006 has that contemporary feeling, and Jon may seem to not know that stuff doesn't have the same biting edge.

He sings about glasses of wine and technicolor kisses nowadays.

To note: hearing Wild is the Wind was awesome and made the night that much better.

Again, I'll buy the new music and probably like it a lot as a dedicated and faithful follower of this band that's been an integral and meaningful part of our lives. They have been good to us, and I am thankful, so please take this criticism akin to watching Superman being no longer able to lift a car or bend steel with his bare hands. It's sad to watch, but this happens to every rock band and these guys have nothing to apologize for. They gave us alot of good years and tons of great music. But make no mistake about it, the real rock band is gone.

I don't think we'll ever break a sweat at a BJ concert again. Just need to decide if waving my arms and sashaying my shoulders are worth minimum $250/seat.

I'm only 19 and I've not seen the best of Bon Jovi. My first show was in 2008. You made me depressed.

I fell asleep just reading the set list.

I'm With You (I have a feeling) is gonna be this tour's I Am. Will be the best song on the record, and they'll never play it live.

I'm glad I have the option of getting a refund on the Mohegan show. I'll do Foxboro as there is no way Jon could be dumb enough to think a set like this will work in a stadium, but I'll get my money back on the Mohegan show.

Great review, and sadly, probably spot on.

I understand that.. which is probably why I've lost a lot of passion for Bon Jovi and moved in a general direction of metal. I fell in love with the 80's records when I was 9-10 and that's what stayed with me, but sadly I never experienced it. Such is a life, I guess.

Thanks for a great review and I hope Jon realizes how bad this is and that at least the setlist gets better and that I will be able to enjoy a good concert in Europe in June.

BTW, 7 songs from an album that isn't even out yet is pretty damn stupid. Is he trying to put the fans to sleep? Not one ballad. This set list reminds me of when Aerosmith did that blues tour years back and didn't perform any hits.

Runaway
Always
Born To Be My Baby
I'll Be There For You
Living In Sin
Lay Your Hands On Me
Bed of Roses
Blaze of Glory

You've got 7 top 10 singles that weren't performed. That's a lot.

Jon being Jon. Doing what's easiest for him, not really giving a crap what the audience wants. Pretty sad that Def Leppard has figured out a way to write a more balanced set list.
