No one thought it was a self-critical song. Most felt the band ought to actually take a critical look at themselves and felt ashamed they didn't realize how the song was a parody on their own act, which is exactly where the hatred comes from.

I have never liked it.. not the studio version and not the live version. It's lyrically inept and has a melody and rhythm that makes me want to instantly switch it off or skip.
