One thing I have always admired about a band like Jovi is that they at least have enough balls to play 6-8 songs from the newest album at their shows. It shows that they are proud of their recent work, it's just a pet peeve I have.
Is this part of a festival or I heard some one mention that it's basically a larger version of what americans call a state fair, so maybe thats why.

Yep, I agree. I don't want the HAND songs to diminish in the set. Oh and interesting if this was like a state fair type show. I hadn't heard that. Well, next stop Holland!! We shall see what that show brings.

I just came home from the show... it was good and bad. A very good show but missed something.

First the bad things:
They played only two hours (not 2.15 as someone wrote). Just tow hours. Period. Over. That's the shortest open air gig I've ever heard of. When they left after "Wanted" everybody was expecting more although all musicians gathered to bow and say goodnight. They left very quick as if the plane was waiting or something. Very strange. I'm not used to that at a BJ gig.

The whole gig went like a rush - they left no time in between songs. Only seconds after ending one song they went into the next and sometimes they went from song to song without a break, which is cool... but not the whole show.

The second bad thing was that Jon didn't talk. He wasn't in a bad mood, pissed off or anything, he made little jokes during songs ("that's what you call a german summer, huh?!") or with Richie ("'Get Richie or die trying'... you should put it on your bedroom wall"), but in between songs he didn't talk at all - apart from "Thank You, good night" and a very short introduction of Richie. No "Runaway", no "Saturday Night". Very strange.
- Maybe it was because ofthe cold? Jon made comments and mimics several times, pretending to shake of cold. Who knows?

And now the GOOD news...

My first show on this tour. The stage was impressive, sound was excellent and the band played tight. As I said... they were all in a good mood, it was mostly the quick ending which put a shadow on the many highlights.

And the catwalk... We stood directly at the "barrier" in the middle of the stage and had Jon in front of us many times. I took some good pictures and videos. Funny to see this guy close up. He seemed to enjoy the catwalk a lot though he didn't shake hands that much - well, not mine.
All in all there was little interaction in the band. Everyone seemed happy on their own and Richie.... hmmm, now I know what you all wrote about him. He doesn't seem unhappy or misplaced, but he's not as usual. And why did he let Bobbie play so many solos? Still suffering?

The setlist... Starting with "Raise your hands" was really surpsising and made my heart go pump. Even the crew seemed not to know because in front of me was a roadie waiting with his mic stand (hmmm, what's the word for that thing???) to put it up on the catwalk, but then Jon of course didn't need it as he wasn't playing guitar. Knowing all setlists from the tour from the first moment on it was a feeling like "Anything could happen next". Cool.

To have "These Days" in the middle of the set was a nice surprise, too. And "Wild in the Streets" really rocked me off my socks. I did a lot of air drumming throughout the whole show, together with my buddy who is a real drummer (I just pretend to be sometimes). We had a lot to do and it was fun to see that we both knew all Ticos licks and fills (stuff like the end of "Wild in the Streets"... you know what I mean).

My personal favourites of the evening:

"Everyday". It was pure Rock'n'Roll. They shouldn't ignore a recent album and one song was little enough. Richie played a new solo.

"I'd die for You". Never heard it live before. Though Jon played the solo (or tried to - something very important was missing) it totally rocked. Great live song, the energy translates very well from record to band to audience. These four and a half minutes alone were worth all the money and time I spent on the show. I'm really really happy. Thank You.

"I'll be there for You" - Richie played an endless kick ass solo in the end and when Jon came back he played along with the crowd doing the "Whoooaa Whoooaaa Whoooaaas". Well done.

"Last man standing". It felt good in its new place in the set though I wanna hear it as the opener next time. I can't tell you how it rocked - again, it came totally unexpected. I thought by not playing it as the opener they wouldn't play it at all - like this one show in Japan (when they opened with "Great Balls of Fire".) So when they finally started it I went crazy - 'cause it's my favourite song off the HAND album and by far one of their best songs of the new millenium music- and lyricwise.

I don't need to hear "Garageland" - probably the most boring song on the boxset. Live it went over better than expected, but I don't need it a second time.

"In these Arms" and BTBMB should both retire. They're great songs, but being played on the last few tours the magic is gone - especially ITA doesn't work live as on record (where it has a certain magic and is one of my favourites).

So, all in all a great show which ended much too soon and could have have had more interaction between the group but now as I start to fall asleep I'm still under the impression of a great and special show. A Bon Jovi show isn't something that comes to your town too often so you get what you can take. But when you have to say that about a show you know it's not enough. But what they did was excellent. It rocked.

See you in Munich.

"It was the day before christmas....and Iīm freezing my a$$ off in the middle of Germany"

Another quote from Jon which could explain why the show ended so soon...

Pretty good set although it looks a little short. Still I wouldn't be complaining with These Days and ITA in there. God I cannot wait for July to get here!!

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

Thanks for the review Simon, and yes the setlist was kind of short - very unusual but short. I hope we start getting some nice weather!
