Aloha !

Alright, the first day of this trip where I'm having a proper internet connection that doesn't cost a fortune, so here's my short review;

This show was really, really good. The entire pacing of the setlist was completely spot on apart from Who Says and Crash following eachother back to back which sort of gave a lul in the set compared to how the build up was earlier. The first half of the set was rocking though, Radio and I Get A Rush were very welcome changes to the usual stuff.

The surprises in the set were in the right spot as well, as soon as you felt like "It sort of sucks that I've heard this before" they gave us another one. I felt that the crowd was a lot better than in Munich and Dusseldorf as well, everyone clapped their hands during Sat. Night and all hands got up in the air during Faith.

Jon was really, really good tonight, I reckon one of his best vocal performances of the tour. He was properly hitting notes at this show, unlike where he's just aiming for them and then barely hitting them. Richie was spotless as well, and the whole band was having a great time. The fact that he was willing to loosen it up a lot more with some banter about Elvis, the medley in Bad Medicine and playing Miss Fourth Of July made it look less scripted and planned than it actually might've been. Though Mercy was sort of to be expected I felt they rehearsed that in one way or the other because the band played a completely different arrangement to it with Huey playing bass like I hadn't heard from him.

Obviously the big surprise in the encore was brilliant, it felt like a freight train coming over you and when it was done I seriously wouldn't have mind if they'd have played it again. After the first encore Richie's guitar tech was bringing him the guitar for what I thought was going to be Always but Richie told him to get another one so I knew we would get something different. We definitely got one of the best performances of Love's The Only Rule so far, and although Thierry said Jon's voice was shot near the end I beg to differ. I was seriously impressed with how he managed to handle him during the entire show. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen from this band.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I still haven't had a chance to read this thread, but I will as soon as I'm in one place long enough. In spite of the fact that I haven't done my homework, I thought I'd stop by and post a few pics. I can't do much editing on my little netbook, so the full albums will have to wait until I get home.

We were toward the back of the GC at this show. I think the new camera and I are going to get along just fine!

Oh, one more thing . . . I GOT HEY GOD!!!!!

The sound and the video that I took of Miss Fourth of July was actually decent. It's too bad that crazy woman starting fighting during the song.

Hi those pics are indeed VERY impressive for back of GC. I've been trying to figure out which camera to buy as I'm looking for a great quality one for work/leisure! Do you mind me asking what your camera is?

Now that I'm back home, I'm going to try to read through all of the PBP threads that I missed and add some rather late comments. I'm sorry I wasn't able to do this while we were on the road, but there was just so little time and WiFi! Many thanks to all of those who were pleased for me when they played Hey God at this show. I couldn't believe that I was hearing it at my very first show in Europe! IT WAS AWESOME! I also love the box set, so getting 3 songs from it was perfect for me. I'd heard all 3 before (although this was my first time hearing I Get A Rush by the full band), but I was very pleased to hear them again. They really added to the surprise factor, and this show ended up being one where you were never quite sure what was coming next. I LOVE THAT! I was also thrilled to get LTOR to end the show. I thoroughly enjoyed that song in the U.S. and was very sad when it disappeared. It wasn't a song that I ever expected to reappear in Europe.

I've got concerts each of the next two nights, but I'll be working on photos like crazy over the weekend. (AdoramaPix is running another outstanding sale on their photo books, and I want to take advantage of it.) I've already posted a few pics from this show, but I'll add more once I've created a full album.

The final review of my German tour 2011 is up. Maybe a little less objective, and deeper and more emotional than the other ones I guess:

Round 4 - Heading To Mannheim - Now it’s do or die!
