By now we know for sure that none of that was planned. The original setlist was a lot shorter and didn’t have any “special” song. But well, things changed. Things had to change because of the amazing choreography we had prepared. I’ve seen some pictures, they are really good and useful for you to understand how it looked like. But you know, they still haven’t created a way to photograph the emotion of standing there in the diamond circle in the afternoon, still waiting, waiting and waiting, tired, thirsty and with a sunburn, and then suddenly looking at your left and just seeing for the very first time the word JOVI coming out and feeling your heart stop. Or the emotion of the moment when during the show Richie saw it, he smiled, called Jon and Jon himself stopped for a moment and then said “Oh… we hadn’t seen that yet” with a look upon his face that I will never forget. Or my pride in being there and holding up one of those little Italian flags. Or when Jon started singing Lie to me, and he could not remember the words but we all were already singing those “yeah yeah yeah” and he was speechless and made one of his cutest and sweetest smiles. Or when he grabbed the big Italian flag and put it on his shoulders. There are sooo many moments that made me cry and if I close my eyes I can still see everything.
Take a look at Jon during Always. He is close to tears. Have you ever seen him like this in your own country? No, you haven't. And you never will. Every city can try to repeat a choreography like ours now, but it will never be the same again. We are unique, we are going to remain the only ones.
Have you seen what they wrote on their facebook page? “This is one of the most memorable shows we ever played in Europe.” Yes, it is.
We all know JBJ as a superman, nothing ever stops him. Well, we did, Italy did. Face it: Italy rocked, our show has been one of the best in the European tour, we got Lie to me, we got a lot of songs. But above all, we made something completely special, than no one else had ever made before, and the guys loved it. Italian fans are unlike everyone else and it was time for the guys and for all of you to understand it.
Being a part of that, with a lot of friends, is something that you cannot buy, steel, fake or tell. On stage Jon said it was a magical night. He was right. And you know, magic cannot be seen or created by everyone: you have to be a little special to make it happen and probably even more special to see it. Italy is very special. Each and every person who was there on Sunday night, who thought, organized and gave shape to the choreography is a little wizard, and I’m proud to say I’m one of them.
And of course I’m so very grateful to the guys. They had the best reaction they could have: I was second row right in front of Richie, so I have perfectly seen their faces, their smiles, their eyes, and I can tell for sure that they were REALLY touched and surprised. You can’t pretend on things like these. Of course I will never forget what I’ve lived, but I’m pretty sure they will never forget it either.
After I’ll be there for you, Jon and Richie got back from the catwalk on stage, but we kept on singing along so he had to sing again the “uoh ooh”s.
I don’t think Jon and the guys could ever expect a thing like this from Udine. Until this night, Italy was not know as a country where Bon Jovi are very famous and loved. That’s what made the surprise even bigger. They could not believe their own eyes and ears. We’ve heard Jon had planned to start the show earlier and to make it pretty short. Oh, it seems like he changed his mind later. I guess he didn’t want to leave anymore by the end of the concert. He waved goodbye a couple of times, and then got back to us once again, with his hand upon his heart. I would say it means that we will remain in his heart for a while now. They already have a special place in our heart, but after this night it has become a little bigger, a little deeper, a little sweeter.
“I love this town” did NOT ruin the encore as somebody said. Not at all. We all know what the song means for the band and we know that they play it only in places where they really like to play. Now Italy has officially become one of those places, period.
Trying to describe the show is still too difficult for me. But you know the setlist, you’ve seen some videos, so you can probably figure out how amazing it was. They were in perfect shape, Tico is incredible, David rocked us all and I’m so glad I heard him sing In these arms once again, there are no words to describe Jon’s energy and all of the emotions he gave us, and Richie… I’m so proud and happy to see him like that, so joyful, so fit, so strong, so hot, so rock n roll. They were great and above all they were moved just like we were.
When you are such a big fan of a band, there can be times when you feel fed up or deceived. We all know the lines by Hallelujah: “your faith was strong but you needed proof”. If someone was there that night needing proof, Bon Jovi gave us one big, clear answer: they are the most amazing band ever, they deserve all of our love and support, and everything we have to do for them is definitely worth it. I’ve been a fan for more than 10 years, almost half of my life, and I don’t regret any single day. Because when I need it, they always know how to win back my love. After this concert, I love Bon Jovi more than before and I’m even more proud to be a Jovi girl.
When I was leaving Udine the morning after, I was standing alone at the station and suddenly a hard rain fell down. I was already feeling so nostalgic. Two girls sitting next to me started singing softly Bells of freedom. I started to cry once again and all I could think was: we made history together, thank you.
Now the black number on my hand has faded, but the memories… the memories will remain and shine bright forever.
THIS IS ITALY. THIS IS NOT SPAGHETTILAND. ROSICONI.
