I also found this other recording of STYG on youtube. It is of the screen, and catches the people in the front row with the banners.

Wish I'd been there! I know this isn't the youtube thread, but it's exactly what this thread has been about for a large portion.

Default Concert Review

I just got home from Amsterdam. Went to see the city today, which was nice. But after last nights shows I could have as well stayed in bed savouring last night's memories. The show was fantastic, so the highlights that I will name were absolutely incredible performances.

Right from the start, the crowd was insane. The atmosphere was incredible and the band must have realized this the moment they took the stage. Jon was wearing a dutch soccer jersey for the first song, which he exchanged for his black leather jacket after Rocking All Over The World.

Raise Your Hands was VERY well recieved by the crowd and Jon was in one of those kind of moods that make him capable of pretty much everything. He was the great showman he can be when he is in the right mood. In These Arms was cool with Dave singing the Intro due to a request on a banner. When I realized this, I became aware that this could posibly become quite special.

And it did. Diamond Ring was also done becuase of a banner request and was done in full and accoustic. Sounded absolutely great.

Always to me was the absolute highlight. The crowd were sining so loud that I had trouble hearing JOn (and I was standing in the pit). A very, very extended outro by Richie, which was absolutely amazing.

SIBSN was done with lots of improvisation and Jon did his "I'm alive screams and a little bit of talking in between. You could see how much the man was enjoying himself.

HAND, IML, BOG, BOB and IBTFY went down very well with the crowd being absolutely extatic. Prayer, well. Never during the 6 shows I had seen previously have I heard a crowd sing the chorus at the beginning anywhere near as loud as last night.

The only songs that I thought were performed a little better in Gelsenkirchen and Hamburg this tour were WGIGO and WSYCGH. I dont know why, but i thought they lacked a little bit of energy. The crowd still bought those songs though and went nuts.
WLOL went down like a dead balloon.

Then it was time for the encore and, well, what can I say. The first thing that I could think of when I heard the opening chords of STYG was Brussels, 1988.
Lyrics were held by the front row and Jon read them one by one, getting confused at one point and jokingly waving his middle finger. It seemed to me, that Richie taught him the chords right before they started playing it and also that Richie knew the lyrics perfectly well.

Then it was Wanted and gone they were.

A few general remarks:

The stadium was a little more than half-filled, i'd say about 30 - 35 000 people. It's a shame that this is clearly their best european tour in ages, but at the same time the worst attended one. Whatever Billboard will say, so far, I dont think any of the european shows has been sold out and 2 out of the 3 shows Ihave seen (Hamburg and Amsterdam) were poorly attended with just above 50% of the stadiums capacity being filled. Also, judging from pictures on the net, Leipzig wasnt even half filled. Wether the poor ticket sales are due to high ticket prices, poor record sales, 5 Bon Jovi tours in 9 years or whatever else, is a different matter.

The audience was beyond fantastic. I have never seen a crowd like that before and I have seen quite a few stadium shows by BJ and many other bands. Amazing atmosphere, which was clearly absorbed by the band.

The band, is absolutely on fire at the moment. I thought that Hamburg was a highlight, but Amsterdam was even better. If there is anyone still in doubt on wheter or not to go and see Bon Jovi this year, go!

And finally, Richie. Oh, Richie. The one thing he does seem to lack on this leg of the tour is constance. He was very messy and clearly unfocused in Gelsenkirchen. He was in good shape in Hamburg. But whatever the man was on last night, he should take it on a regular basis. To say he was on fire is pure under-exaggeration. He went nuts during the outro of always, which lasted for ages and was my personal highlight of the show. He extended the extended solo during IBTFY ad he ripped through the soli of KTF. It was an absolute delight and and honour to see my favourite member of the band play in such a manner and whith such passion.

What a fantastic night!

Fantastic videos. Thanks so much for posting! I still can't believe they've played Stick to Your Guns (or at least most of it). I wonder when it will sink in!

Well I thought it was shit, they didnt even play bad medicine

Well its been a mad 3 days but what a fantasic ****ing trip!!!! Amsterdam was great, the whole football crowd atmosphere was excellent (yes I became an adopted Holland fan seen as my country didnt qualify).

I always say i can judge a show on the first few songs, and you just knew Jon was up for it last night. Cant add much more to whats been said, but the undoubted highlight was Stick to your guns. I thought it was gonna be wild is the wind but was even more pleased with this song. I took off my holland jesters had and threw it up in the air when I realised what it was !!! Amazing....

This is turning out to be the best tour ever for me. Every show is different and I hope they keep it up and not just for the big gigs either. Im gutted I sold my Twikenham night 1 ticket and am thinking of getting another after my last 3. Dunno il see if I can "Stick to my guns" and hold out for night 2.

Oh and I finally met Seb Thierry was moaning cos me and Yvonne got bigger beers than him

Next stop Manchester!!!

Glad you had a great time Carli. I've met Thierry but would like to meet Seb too. And the setlist - my god. If I were you I'd go buy another ticket (if you can afford it).

But what a setlist, hey! We were so excited here last night.
Bummed that I missed it!

Fine, you can blow Jon. I'll just blow Dave on top of a piano. Happy?
