Mark Knopfler has gotten boring as hell in my opinion.
As for tonight - it might just sparkle a bit rather than being grey. I think Richie does better when he is touring than when he is home. And I don't just mean with alcohol. I remember a comment that Jon made in some interview years ago about Richie calling him up and wondering when they were going to back on the road. He mentioned that the day to day bullshit was killing him. That's not a direct quote - but if I'm remembering correctly Richie might be happier playing tonight than not.
