No, you're not. Of course it's a good thing that they're mixing it up a bit, but with Open All Night? Come on! It's an awful song IMO. Even if I try, I can't enjoy that. Sorry all.

However, some people are saying that this might be a sign that from now on they'll mix it up with more songs from the 80's and 90's, and if that's true - great! But that's just a theory. As of now, this only proves that the only songs Jon are interested in "experiencing" with are songs from the 00's. As long as they insist on throwing in songs like Story Of My Life, Misunderstood and the one and only Open All Night - I will bitch about it. When they start making good choices, I'll be the first in line to encourage them.

Are you going tonight?

Aloha !

Open All Night isn't a good choice. Sure, Jon loves it, but just like Seat Next To You the song won't work live in arena's. The song drags and chances of the audience recognizing the song are very slim too.

The fact that they picked a random track is a good thing. That's two different things.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Did Jon sing Open All Night through he's nose like he does on the album?!
One of the worst vocal performances from Jon ever put down on tape IMO.
I would prefer to here the Open All Night that is on the box set.

No, not at all. I thought it sounded good but would need to hear a recording of it to be sure. I'm looking to see if it's on youtube yet.

I read a quote from Billy Joel today regarding how he chooses his set list, he says when he chooses rarities or deep cut tracks a lot of the times he chooses songs HE likes he says, that doesn't mean to "hell with the diehards and audience" but there has to be some fun for him too.

exactly.
People don't understand that sometimes, there's a reson that these guys are releasing albums nowadays and it's because the songs they are releasing resonate with them. I'm guessing that if you've written album with 12 songs you're really proud of, then you might want to play them live and show the world what you are proud of making.

That's not saying that they are not proud of te songs from the 80's, but maybe the recent album cuts are just fresher in their minds and might mean more to them right now?

So yeah, I agree, they should add more songs from the 90's, but if I was them would I be adding this much songs from my recent material?? Damn right!!!

I'm going to play the other side of the field on this one. I love the original song but the live version doesn't do it for me. Mainly because I saw the song as really intimate, not to be sung in the manner Jon is. That's just me though, I'd still love to hear those words live.
