(btw thanks for your review, I am glad you had a great time at your first jovi concert. I did at mine but don't plan to follow the band around because then I would become picky about what I was seeing/hearing, etc. and would be disappointed with the lack of new songs or rarities. To each their own)
Big Concerts the promoter which brings the acts out puts any acts big enough to fill a stadium in Cape Town Stadium and FNB stadium in Jo'burg. I don't believe the bands are aware of the problem, as I doubt whether they read the promoters facebook page after a concert is held there. But no there is no other large stadium option, the only other large stadium being Newlands Rugby Stadium, which is a profitable stadium in the middle of an upmarket neighborhood, there were a couple of concerts there years ago, but the outcry from residents was enough for Western Province Rugby to refuse concerts after that. Cape Town Stadium was built for the 2010 World Cup and has been a bit of white elephant since. Its not paying for itself or its upkeep, costing the city millions, practically the only thing it gets used for these days is concerts, ironic since the acoustics are so bad.

I will definitely go see them again if they are in the same city as me,(even at Cape Town Stadium) but no I don't intend to travel just to see them, being in the bottom left hand corner of Africa, in most cases it would be a very long trip, and while they are by far my favorite band I would never feel justified in spending tens of thousands of rand to see them. Not judging anyone who does, as you say each to their own.

They played for just over two and a half hours, coming on at about 8:55 and ending at 11:30. There is a bus strike in South Africa at the moment, meaning public transport to the venue was limited, special trains are put on, on concert night, but with out buses people have to walk to the station about 3kms away, the last train was at 12:10. People who had to use public transport couldn't have stayed longer anyway. Most of us there were expecting a two hour concert, believe me, the only complaints I have heard were about the sound, not one person has suggested the concert was too short!

If this would be the set of my first show in 18 years I'd be quite happy. It's territories they've played loads of times before where this setlist is rather bland, yet with Dry County in there, there actually still is something for the die hards as well.
Yeah their approach was spot on, but everytime they play somewhere they haven't been for 20 years I expect something special.
They got the "US super mega rare show" treatment, which is by all means fine, just not special.

Nah, see my reply to Shady Lady, if this were the case, U2, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, The Eagles, RHCP, Limp Bizket all have crap management.

I've never got the whole 'they've not been there for 20 years, it should have a rare song' lark. Places like UK/US etc.. Should get the rare songs because they're at these places constantly.

If they've not been there for a while, then I think this is the perfect setlist. I'd be made up with it.

Worlds apart: in North America and Europe we can follow a play-by-play and watch videos on YouTube almost immediately after the show is over. In South Africa, we're lucky to get the set list after the show is over, and one crappy video.

Well you were definitely being negative about it. What would it take to constitute a complaint?

Hey be nice When you either haven't seen them for 18years or not at all, who is going to sit on the phone texting play by plays or taking video.
