But why a casual concert/setlist is a vanilla?

Well, These Days was played in the last 3 concerts, maybe they play it there too.
Many casuals who go to the show won't hold a grudge and be mad if they don't play songs like These Days. These are the fans who go to hear Prayer, Bad Name, Wanted, etc. They won't make much of a rarity, they'll just think "meh, more concert." Basically, if Jon doesn't have to go crazy with the set, he won't.

However, I'm not saying that I don't want them to play These Days.

Becky, they've also updated the FAQ. Those in the VIP section can now bring cameras.

Green River Ordinance us an AWESOME band. Ive been following them since 05. During the HAND Tour, GRO won the opening slot for the Dallas show. The guys are real nice and when they come to town they know my brother and I are going to be there. Fir a good taste, "Out of My Hands" is a good pickup! Enjoy them, they are an awesome group of guys!

Oh, and GRO was signed with Virgin records for their major label debut. It was short-lived and they are now independent again. They had a great site up that raised money for their new record and depending on the size of the donation you'd get certain amenities like getting a private show or being able to write a song with them and so on.

I don't know if it's so much that JBJ won't "go crazy with the set" if he doesn't think he has to. That buys into the "Jon is lazy" theory, and I don't believe that for a second. I think it's more that he thinks he'll lose the casual fan's attention if they play stuff they don't know. And while I think that's entirely possible, I maintain that they have a very short attention span to begin with and are going to go buy beer, take a whiz, talk to the cute guy/girl over there, etc. NO MATTER WHAT THE BAND PLAYS. So why not throw the diehards a bone or 2. (If you put them in the setlist at refill time, it will work out beautifully.) No matter what they've played, Jovi will still get the casuals back when they launch into Wanted, Prayer, IML, etc.

Thanks Ryan. A couple of friends in Dallas have told me about the same thing. I must say, I liked the stuff I listened to on the band's website a lot more than some of the "name" opening acts I've had to suffer through before Jovi!

I agree with you that I don't believe (just assuming of course), that Jon will make up a set list, thinking they won't have to bother much, because of the type of crowd. I know some fans that justify the vanilla shows with, who cares what they play as long as they give a great performance, so that would be the reason for the 80% of vanilla shows then? That's a very lame reasoning, like giving up on their potential. Sorry, but I don't buy that.

What I believe is that having a set list on mind, it will be it or will be changed based on the audience reaction, you can not prejudge an audience, because then certain shows will be for ever vanilla and others just out of this world.
I believe the audience makes the show most of the time. The problem IMO is that the die hards normally get nothing special, in favor of the casual crowd, I still think that a few "unique" songs here and there, won't kill the show.

As you mention casual fans take breaks, LOL they could take them during those very special songs, and let us enjoy them.

I'll be happy with one song that's not vanilla.

How many songs do you think they'll play. I bet 15-18 songs.

BLAZE OF GLORY
WHOLE LOT OF LEAVIN'

It was a 2-hour show. (We'd heard there was a strict curfew.) I'm expecting something similar in length.
