They played it in 1989 as a medley with 99 In The Shade in Sydney

Look what wikipedia says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summertime_Blues
Even Bon Jovi are stated there as band who covered that song. Quite old song, half a century
I can't see any special connection to Australia.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

I was there tonight, attendance was about 29k apparently. Setlist was pretty average obviously, bit disappointing after Sydney. Not a fan of the encore, and I passed quite a few people on the way out not happy with them ending on a song that "nobody knows". Richie went over well with the crowd on IBTFY, and they all sounded pretty good. Had a great time, with any luck it wont be another 15 years to get them back

Ok, this was my first Bon Jovi concert (hadn't even started kindy when they last came to Perth). It was a disappointing set, felt like they were just covering the bare minimum (Coming to Perth is always such a chore for most bands so at least they came, haha). But I seriously thought it was a good show... average songs really came to life on the stage. I obviously can't compare it with their earlier shows, but the guys knew how to get the crowd into it. They were eating out of Jon's hand. And they really embraced Richie's slightly bluesy rendition of IBTFY (I was worried the Jonny groupies would not approve ). Even though I know they've been doing Bad Medicine with Shout for something like 15 years and I have DVDs of it, I wasn't prepared for the atmosphere of actually being in the crowd for it. It sounded AWESOME. (Of course, I'm sure it sounds less awesome when you've heard/experienced it the same way dozens of times but most of the crowd probably hadn't had that privilege ). Jon's voice was pretty good, solid. It did thin out during the key change for Prayer (but with close to 30 000 people singing it with him, I'm not sure how noticeable it was). He also sounded a bit gravelly at the start of the encore but seemed to get back into it during Wanted and finished off ok. Everyone I heard coming out seemed to really enjoy the show (well maybe not ending with I Love This Town lol) but wanted to hear Always (highest selling BJ single in Australia IIRC) and Bed of Roses. Saturday Night would have been good since it was Australia Day Eve. And of course stuff from These Days! But anyway... the seasoned Jovi concerteer might have been let down by the Subi gig but as a first timer I'm on a high.

Apparently the shirt Jon wore during the encore was a Heath Ledger reference (the Joker)?

I reckon next time (please let there be a next time reasonably soon!) they should think about covering AC/DC for the Aussie gigs (well either that or play Dry County and some other rarities! ).

Not bad from the Violet Flames either. It would have been a bit hard playing at 7:30 because people were still scattered and clogging up the aisles (I couldn't actually see them for this reason) but they sounded good. (They are friends with one of my friends and my ex, but I don't think that's enough to constitute any bias, and if anything, simply adds weight to a theory that if you know about two people in Perth you are connected to pretty much everyone :P.)
